Not showing for my own company no.1 on serps

Hi,

I have a site -https://ilovenorthdevon.co.uk - local directory/blog for North Devon.

The problem is there is a single Holiday Let Business with the name 'Love North Devon'and they dominate everything associated with searching for 'I Love North Devon'. - I have a verified Google Business Page, but this only shows when searching 'ilovenorthdevon'

Is this due to their domain authority/rank etc?

my wife bought a page one rank off fiverr - currently 6700 backlinks - i know this not doing us any favours and im trying to contact seller, is there anything i can do?

any help massively appreciated¬!

    Moreover, you might face EMD (Exact Match Domain) Google filter. Just make your site worthy with content and quality links, visitors with low bounce rates, etc. - and you'll see how it's growing in SERPs.

      That is just stupid. There is no EMD filter.

      I guess Amazon would be screwed for anyone that searches for 'Amazon' since it is an EMD.

        Of course it is. The "EMD Penalty" was an excuse made up by people who had an exact match domain that suddenly saw their rankings plummet when Google stopped giving weight to the domain name in their algorithm. They had bad sites with bad links that were getting an artificial boost because of their domain name and when Google took that away, they fell to where they really belonged.

        There is no EMD penalty; there is no EMD filter; there never was. Google couldn't care less what your domain name is.

    It is likely a combination of two things:

    1) The other site has much more authority than yours
    2) The word "I" is a "stop word", which are usually ignored by search engines.

    I would not worry about that particular search term. It's the kind of thing nobody would search for.

    The Fiverr gig could potentially cause a penalty. That was a really bad decision. Nobody is going to get a page to rank for $5. They probably blasted your site with a bunch of low quality and spammy links. Nobody is creating 6700 good links for $5.

    I would work on getting all of those links removed and make sure you leave a bad review for the seller. Fiverr's review system is setup to allow scammers to thrive on people that do not know any better.

    ok thanks for the heads up. i know nobody would search for that term, I just wondered why that was the case. The 'i' stop word does make sense.

    I'm in the process of removing all of those bad links now and work on getting above the competition!
