Making sense of the serps

Hello all,

I'm baffled at what to do. I am checking serps daily for my target keywords and I'm not moving. My organic leads are down 50% and I'm about to have to lay off staff.

I am getting outranked by sites like Yelp and Home Advisor and even local sites.

Using Ahrefs, these pages have lower page ranking and far less backlinks.

I don't know what the issue might be. I have my page title and title tagged optimized.

  • I think you're looking at this very simplistic.

If you have 10,000 links from shitty unrelated sites and I have 2 from BBC - I win (roughly speaking)

Sites like Yelp and HomeAdvisor have high Domain Authority that they, let's say, pass onto their pages... same as Wikipedia and many other sites. Basically they will outrank you because google sees that root domain has high authority.

Your title page are optimized... but that's not really making your ranking much better. In some cases you'll outrank someone completely un-optimized (if that's even word) based just on little bit of optimization, but that's about it.

I'm oversimplifying this for you greatly... just so you get the right direction where to look at.
  • Besides titles, what else have you done, SEO-wise?
