Best SEO practice for large service area local businesses

I own a company that performs services directly in the end users home. I have a service area that is around 25 miles from my physical business address.

Currently, my website ranks great for the actual location of my business. However, as soon as I search two or three cities away, my business no longer shows on the 1st page of google. Heck, it doesn't even show up on the first few pages of google.

I'm wondering what are some approaches I should consider in order to improve my online presence in the other cities?

I've heard of creating landing pages that use subdomains. Something like city1.domain.com, city2.domian.com and so on... has anyone ever done something like this, and if so is it advisable or harmful?

Any advice would be appreciated!

    1. Do off page submissions with those cities in title where you want to
rank your services. Like XYZ service in ABC city.
    2. Do classified Submissions for the city you are targeting.

By the way can you tell me your website?? So that i can analyse and tell you rest of the things.

    - Try and get other credible websites to link to your page
    - Register on all directories (this one is key)
    - Be active on social media
    - Encourage people to leave reviews (especially on Google)

    Hope this helps

Create pages for those cities... Don't create crappy ones...
Create backlinks to those pages using your keywords + the name of those various cities.

Create backlinks to existing pages using those keyword.

Let's say you're from Spartanburg, SC and you are now ranking for
home insurance Spartantburg but want to be ranking in Greenville.

Well, you make a page for Greenville Home Insurance and create backlinks that have
greenville home insurance, homeowner insurance greenville SC as anchor text.

If you want to rank in the 3 pack (map), rent office space in a building in Greenville SC, make yourself a Google business page for Greeenville... (Can be a desk inside someone else's office, as long as you get your own phone line and name on the door.)

You'll end up showing in the 3 pack of one or three of the cities between Greenville and Spartanburg).

Also, get people from those other cities to mention your business, with or without link... You know, create a buzz about your business in the areas you want to rank for.

I would just add that you should create citations for those locations, and optimize maps as well, and you are set to go. DABK pretty much exlpained exactly what has to be done.
