Step 1 is to determine whether it needs to be reduced.

Provide content that better matches what they expect or get traffic from a different source.

Improve loading time (if it's too low).

    Never think about bounce rate.

I think the high bounce rate is not that bad. When you have more people that check your website, there will be more chance to have viewers that find your content is good and share it to the world.

Bounce rate is the reflection of the users behavior from your site page/s.
So to keep the visitors stays longer within the pages of your site you need to provide their needs and expectations.

Interesting, I would also like to hear that social bookmarking can lessen the bounce rate of the website.

First of all you need to know why people are bouncing!
I guess you visitor want to read , they did not get it in your site or they get it but enough quality info! so what to do:
Revise your content according to keywords and make it for user not only write for search engine.

    Best of luck!

It will need you to research more deeply google analytics. You should check 6 months data about user flow, landing pages, etc.

From which page users bouncing from your site. Is it homepage, inner page, contact us page?

First research all of this thing.

Let me share one of my Case study.

I have one big brand in SEO. Somehow i had getting started 90% bounce rate. I was in tensed and i had tried to block some countries first.

But no result. Then i checked Users flow and i found that users are bouncing from one page , if it is homepage, or any inner page.

Then i checked Browsers data and i found what i was looking for. That site was not responding to Internet explorer , chrome older versions and Mozilla older versions.

We have changed theme and solve things and now bounce rate is coming down to 75%.

Reducing bounce rate requires both an On-Page as well as Off-Page approach.
    On Page approaches include,
    • Interlinking web pages with one another.
    • Design a hassle free UI.
    • Easy navigation to target page.
    • Reduce page load time.

Off-page techniques on the other hand include,
    • Increase the number of landing pages
    • Secure high quality backlinks.
    • Engage in social media promotions.
