Diverting from sub domains to domain for new content. Any risks involved?

Hi,

We have our product guide pages on our sub domains which are years old, so are good at backlinks and ranking. Now we got new guide pages on our website (sub directory) and we want these pages to rank above the old guide pages from sub domains. So we are planning to add a link with info from old pages to every new related pages. Will this linking from almost every page of sub domain to main domain penalise us? Any risks involved?

Thanks

Wouldn't you be better off just re-directing the old subdomain guides' URLs to the new main domain guides' URLs? You'd be transferring all of that link equity to the new guides. Or, is there some reason that you need those old guides to still be accessible?

Either way, the potential risk is if the old subdomain had been penalized, which likely is not the case if they are still ranking well.
