Linkbuilding is STUPID!

That's what I've heard from a couple people on a web 2.0 type of site, posting pages. "It doesn't work anymore", they said. "It's all about quality", they said. I agree about quality, but otherwise think they're idiots. No offense.

It makes me wonder what others think about it. I'm quite certain it is alive and well, it's just more focused on 'authority' and 'consistency'. It's more refined.

Your thoughts?

My guess if, this thread will get swamped with dozens of clueless people who still think link building "works." That rumor is only surviving because..

    1) Past successes (1990s and 2000's)
    2) It's being circulated in information products created by people who have no idea how to rank sites and are just trying to make money selling books on SEO.

Sadly, a TON of IMers, newbie and advanced, still believe this garbage. Just watch their responses to my answer here. Madness will ensue.

Not sure what the two posters above are talking about but "link building" was never one thing. Outreaching to webmasters and doing content marketing link building is still a thing and it works.

If they are talking about spamming sites with links then yes thats no longer effective as it used to be.

I feel the same way. The quality of the link matters still, but not quantity, at all. The quality being from relevant, topically related sites. SEO is very fined tuned now, but links still play a big role (IMHO).

  • "Linkbuilding is STUPID!" is a very broad sentence.
"web 2.0 sites doesn't work" is not true.
    "SEO means Link Building"

In fact these days, following Diversified Links Strategy work for sure.

    SEO EXECUTION STRATEGY:
    15% Main Keywords
40-45% LSI (8-10 Types of LSI)
    Rest - Naked URLs/Branded Names
    Drip Feed

TYPES OF ANCHOR TEXTS TO USE:

    Exact-Match
Anchor text is "exact match" if it includes a keyword that mirrors the page that is being linked to. For example: 'link building' linking to a page about link building.

    Partial-Match
Anchor text that includes a variation of the keyword on the linked-to page. For example: 'link building strategies' linking to a page about link building.

    Branded
A brand name used as anchor text. For example: 'BHW' linking to an article on the BHW Forum.

    Naked Link
A URL that is used as an anchor 'www.abcde.com' is a naked link anchor.

    Generic
A generic word or phrase that is used as the anchor. "Click here" or "Read more" is a common generic anchor.

    Images
Whenever an image is linked, Google will use the text contained in the image's alt attribute as the anchor text.

    Hope, that helps.

    Good luck.

link building is stupid if you are building your links in spammy sites, porn sites etc.
there will be an adverse effect on your website.

People on a couple other forums. Also there was an article by Rusty Bricks that asked if people were getting out of SEO now, which some are. Some big names apparently. https://www.seroundtable.com/seo-bus...018-24760.html
      It sounded very ominous.

He wrote a couple good articles recently that talks about Google and their ongoing effort to foil our efforts.

As of 2017, link building is one of the most crucial Off-page SEO techniques. Every bit of action you take online to promote your venture is ultimately targeted in securing backlinks for your venture.

Backlinks is the way to bring visitors to your site (in fact a trivial organic method) to say the least.
