Make sure you don't overuse the keyword(s) in your content

Make sure you use both on-page and off-page SEO.

"How to rank on page 1 of google" is not competitive at all. Your site is sitting on page 3, and it is a keyword nobody is trying to rank for.

"Guest posting" is definitely the more competitive of the 2, but still not all that competitive. Your site is nowhere in the top 100.

So the whole "shows how important writing really good content is" just doesn't hold up in either of these examples.

So things like titles, descriptions, sitemaps, internal links, alt tags for images and videos, some content can give Google much better idea of your site and will have an easier time to rank you appropriately.

Bottom line is that you can find hundreds of small things that can affect website rankings and just as Tony Marriott stated, it is recommended you continuously work on them as time goes because it only will improve Google's understanding of the site.
