Ranking a home page vs. inner page

Hi guys,

I recently acquired an exact match domain and I'm planning a strategy for it...I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on optimizing the home page vs. inner.

Let me be clear - I'm talking about "best-123.com" vs " best-123.com/top-10/".

In the research I've done I see many of the exact matches standing tall on a much lower number of links.

On the other hand, I read opinion like "Google now doesn't want to rank a home page."

Any thoughts & experiences are welcome.

Cheers

It doesn't matter that your homepage is same as your some post. Just put the right keywords in your header and also most importantly to your general tags of the page. And than put some quality backlinks to that page. You will do alright.

Google could not care less whether the page they rank for a search term is the home page, a category page or some page buried deep within the bowels of your website. Their goal is to rank the best page for any given search query.
