Disavow thousands of toxic links question

Hi everyone,

Using SEO software, we have found literally thousands of toxic links pointing to our site, we have two questions:

1. when disavowing in Google Webmaster Tool, because there are way too many toxic links, what is correct and most efficient way to do so?

2. the SEO software says that there are 100+ links pointing to our site from another site also owned by us, and because these links are from the same domain, so they are toxic as well, may I have your thoughts on this one?

Thank you.

I would be very, very careful about doing this. In my opinion, a piece of software is not going to be able to identify "toxic" links most of the time. If you start disavowing these links, all you might do is screw up your rankings because you might disavow links that are actually helping you.

I would not disavow a link I have not personally looked at and determined is toxic.

Do you even know what the software's definition of toxic is?

Yeah, like Mike said, you really need to look at the links one at a time to see if they are, indeed, "toxic". In many cases, you may find that many are from the same domain so you just have to disavow the domain, not every singe link - IF you think thy are coming from a bad neighborhood.

Keep in mind that bad backlinks are now ignored by Penguin - you are no longer penalized for them. That does not mean that you couldn't get a manual penalty if a substantial portion of you link profile looks suspicious, though. If you have not been notified of a manual penalty, I'd be very cautious about disavowing links. Do it with a scalpel, not a pick axe.

    1. If you have many toxic links coming from the same domains, you should disavow the whole domain, it's the best way to do.

    2. Try to review your sites, because they're owned by you, then you have the right to edit links/contents on them. Remove/add contents which are low quality/high quality to improve them in the future
It's just IMO, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, the disavow file is now routinely ignored and you don't need to disavow any links. Since penguin, the algorithm works close to real time and doesn't pay any attention to "toxic"/spam links
