Best practice to prioritize similar post content for product category search results

Hello,
I think the title of this thread says most all of the question.Please, with reference to search results and WP site post and eCommerce products, contribute to this thread with efficient methods to direct optimized content to prioritize eCommerce product category in search results.[LIST=1][*]Canonical
Canonicalization would mean that subject is object duplication, so not an option.
I see similar content in similar search queries often, but not often two separate pages+/or posts from same site, but there are occurrences of this can anyone expand on this and help to improve knowledge.
