I this a good Adsense theme to use?

I am finishing up my Adsense template that I will be using as a base for my adsense sites and was wondering if I could get input on it as well as any suggestions anyone might have.

It's based on the BlueSense WordPress theme recommended by Mark (internetmarketer99) on another thread here.

But that theme was so incredibly ugly that I just couldn't stomach using it as it was LOL.

My theme also does not use WordPress.

Anyway I am mostly curious as to whether my making my navigation links on the right look as close to Google Adsense ads as possible is deemed okay with respect to keeping the big G happy.

Also do you think part of what makes the BlueSense such a high CTR theme is the ugliness of it? I mean downright ugliness. Such that a visitor will want to leave as soon as possible but not go back to the search engine?

I mean it is SO ugly LOL.

I can't stand the colors of the BlueSense theme and added a few in mine but it's still u-g-l-y.

Is ugliness a good thing when it comes to Adsense?

Anyway if anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate hearing them.

Here's a link to my theme -> http://174.120.136.123/~carlos/test.com/index.php

Thanks.

Carlos

PS. Oh...I forgot to ask too if I should add more Adsense ad blocks. The WordPress theme in question (BlueSense) is absolutely full of them. Across the top under the header area, on the left, and the right and even on the bottom. That seems a bit too much. What do you all think?

Ya all go ahead and speak up now. That link is a scratch link that will disappear in a week or two. I use such links for purposes such as getting public input or otherwise without giving away domain names.

Don't hold back now. Feel free to express yourselves . The ads and links on my template aren't live. I promise I won't hold anyone responsible for whatever they tell me.

    I am all ears...

    Hey,

I am not sure about the high CTR of ugly themse, but you might have a point with them scaring the visitor away LOL.

I personally would NOT go for this kind of site as a long-term business asset

    Here's why

Fine, you might scare few people and make them run away through your ads, but these types of sites do look like "Made-For-AdSense"

    Google really hates these.

    And so do your visitors.

    On the other hand

If you provide great content, clean crisp design and navigation AND your ads prominently in the top-fold of the screen

    then people will click.

The CTR often also depends on the actual market, you know...

I also think that too many ad blocks distract too much.

One ad block at the top fold, coupled with clean navigation will make your visitors stay longer and eventually click.

I use these types of clean layouts myself and the CTR is decent :-)

Thanks for the input Rich. The one thing I don't want to do is just follow the crowd. Even the Warrior crowd. I don't want to just be using someone else's template just because it's recommended without using common sense to achieve some sort of balance between what is good for Adsense and what is good for visitors.

I definitely don't like the look of the theme I created.

Would any of the following be more in line with what you would recommend Rich?

Guide to Electronic Pet Fence and Pet Containment
Home Mortgage Loan - Types of Home Mortgage Loans
cheap bamboo flooring :: low cost bamboo flooring & floors :: inexpensive floor coverings

I like the look and feel of that last one the best.

      What do you think?

        Hi Carlos

I just checked the 3 sites and for me the second looks nice.
It is clear and precise, the third site is not bad but I prefer the second.

          Hi Jorge,

Hmm...the second one is not bad. The one thing I don't like about it is that the Adsense ads don't run down the length of the page on the left like the 160x600 skyscraper ads do (that's a problem with the third one too).

I am just guessing but it would seem that if a user gets past the ads without clicking and starts reading the page they aren't necessarily going to go back up to click on an ad. They will just browse away.

Whereas if the ads at least run down the sidepane on the left the ads will be right there for the clicking.

I'll see if I can use the ad placement of the WordPress theme I imitated but create a better looking template that won't look so downright ugly LOL.

          Back to the drawing board.

Can one of you who uses Microsoft Internet Explorer please do me the favor of telling me if the following web page appears correctly in Internet Explorer?

It appears correctly in Chromium, Firefox, and Opera and I just need to know if it appears correctly using IE.

The page should have 3 columns under a header and over a footer. If you click on either the "Add to Left Side" or "Add to Right Side" the columns should all grow downward to be of equal height. And their respective background colors should continue down the page for the height of each column.

            http://174.120.136.123/~carlos/xk47/c.html

Please tell me your operating system (ie. XP, Windows 2000, Vista, etc.) and your browser version.

            Thanks.

Carlos, you might want to take a look at that in Firefox. On my screen, the text is running way off the right side of the box.

Great input! Thanks for pointing that out!

I have gotten so used to browsing in the Chromium browser (much better than Firefox for fast development and not nearly as bad of a memory hog) that I forgot I wasn't in Firefox anymore LOL.

It's back to the drawing board a bit to fix that issue.

      Thanks again.
