Let's say I want to rank for [big red santa clause]

bigredsantaclause.com is not available

is it better to register bigredsantaclause.net provided it is available

or is it better to stay with .com and register

bigredsantaclausetips.com

which would be better for seo

thanks

A keyword rich domain name is very helpful tool in getting your site to rank well..

If you can get the .COM version, then go for either the
.NET, .ORG or even the .BIZ version

Forget about .INFO domains, as they seem to be treated poorly by the search engines.

I have no experience with .ME or .NAME domains

    Hope this helps

From my experience, the .net will rank much more quickly than the .com with the extra word.

As they say, the only thing that might matter is that some people prefer to visit .com sites over .nets as they trust them more, but all in all I'd definitely go with the .net here.

Domain names that are an exact match with their search term rank well from the start so go with the .net.

    People choose .coms for branding.

bigredsantaclausetips.com will not rank well for big red santa clause because its not an exact match with the domain.
