A website I'm working on recently removed a page that got a lot of links so we 301 redirected the page to the most similiar page on the site. Ahrefs is reporting this as a broken redirect and I'm not sure why.

A website I'm working on recently removed a page that got a lot of links so we 301 redirected the page to the most similiar page on the site.
Ahrefs is reporting this as a broken redirect and I'm not sure why.
Ahrefs description:
Broken redirect -- This means that both the linking page and the link are ok, but that link was reaching your target via a few redirects and one of them no longer works, so the link is now kind of "disconnected" from the target.
The above explanation does not make things clearer for me.
I tried the original URL in httpstatus.io and there is not a chain, the link 301 redirects to a 200. Can anyone better explain what this issue means?
