Question: About submitting a sitemap to Google

Hello warriors,

When you have a new wordpress blog set-up at what point do you submit your sitemap to Google? I have just finished customising the themes on two of my new blogs, both blogs have very little content, just one post, a contact, privacy and about page. Should I submit the sitemaps now or wait until I have more content?

  • Once you submit the sitemap it will be picked up periodically so it's no problem to submit it early. You can also just add it to your robots.txt file for googlebot to find.
  • Don't submit your site to Google. Instead, allow Google to find it naturally through links you build to your site.

      Or are u guys just so afraid of google that you are to scared to submit a site there afraid that you might f**k things up?
  • While Google should automatically find you through your links, you should submit a sitemap if your site becomes large (i.e multiple pages). Google themselves say that a sitemap will help them find pages on your site the they wouldn't otherwise discover.

    You should not submit a sitemap, however, if your site has flawed navigation issues, broken links or other bad design issues.

    You say your site is small so these issues probably don't apply for now.

    Also, you should have a reason to submit sitemaps. Why do you want to? I'm assuming it's because you are not getting indexed. Some decent linking should solve that within about 7 days.

    • Thanks for the info, my sites are new and the domains are less than one week old, thats why I was thinking about submitting a sitemap.
