Publishing press release hurting our site?

Hi Everyone,

We are a news blog site, we'd published more than 2000 press releases from PR sites on daily basis in the last 2 years. We have not been backlinking to the original press release page on the PR sites.

We have about 20% original content on our site. Our site traffic is growing, and we plan to restructure and clean up our site to improve ranking.

We'd like to ask if we should stop publishing press releases? Or we should still publish them but link back to original press release page?

For our 2000+ existing published press releases. Would you suggest us to delete them and redirect the URL with 301 redirect? Or simply keep them as they are?

Thank you for your suggestion and insights!

Don't do so much press releases. They will eventually pick up some bad links.

And what are you doing about your backlink profile?

      Hi expmrb,

Thank you for your reply, but allow us to clarify, all these press releases are sent to us by PR firms, so we publish them on our new blog, so we'd like to ask your opinion on what to do with the 2000 press releases that are already published on our blog over the last years?

We get backlinks from people sharing our original contents.

No, they are not, only our original articles rank. So we plan to delete 99% of them, only keep the current news.

Would you recommend the logical steps to take? Thank you.

They are likely do nothing to help your site rank. Press releases are about traffic, not rankings.

They could potentially hurt your site if they are deemed "manipulative" by Google but you would likely know that because of a manual penalty notification in Search Console. Links should be no-followed in press releases.

      Hi Dave,

You are right, we got the same suggestions from other replies. So we plan to delete 90% of them and only keep the current news.

Any recommendation on the correct procedure to take to delete this press releases? What we have in mind is delete them and use 301 permanent redirect.

For more traffic press release can wok nicely, and only press release cant rank a website. You should use more methods of seo those can help rank up a website. And you shouldn't delete your post because of they are already published. More publish of press release search engine can take it as spam, by this it can hurt your site.

      Hi Castor,

Thank you for your insights, but when we research, we came across a term called "zombie page" And these 2000 press releases we published for PR firm seem to fit in this category, and also duplicate contents.

We are also getting mixed suggestion on whether or not deleting them would help, here is one example that recommending to delete zombie pages. Can you let us know your further thoughts? Thank you.
