Weird results after adding strong backlinks to website

Hello
I have a website in few languages, mainly Norwegian (Main lang.) and English.
I've recently (past 2 months) got strong backlinks to the homepages, and also inner pages. So i started to be ranked for new 20+ English keywords, but not in relevant places (Pages 4 etc.). And the main keywords i wanted in Norwegian, dropped down..
Now, i've noticed in the search console that forgot to define main country, so i've changed it to Norway today.
1. The console location definition have such a strong impact?
2. If the homepage contain links to inner pages as it should, or games main page also appear on menu, contain links to allot of inner pages, that each one of them contain link back to the main page, it's not enough for google to understand and give power to the main page?
I mean, do i have to do
hpage/games/game1
It's not enough that ?
hpage/game - And from each game page, there is a link to "Games" main page

Because it seems to me that in my case, google gives more power to the sub pages and less to main page and home page, even thou the main page is also at the menu and linked from allot of inner content pages.
And this is no good since the subpages can't bring any real traffic, i rather this power go to the main pages.
I'll very appreciate any professional advice, and experience you may have with similar problem.

It's a bit tricky when trying to target 2 languages on 1 site, unless you have 2 posts for every article (1 in each language).

    1. It does, yes. It will be easier to rank English keywords as a Norse site, since there are less competition in English, and vice versa (easier to rank a Norse site in USA/UK with Norwegian text, as most if not all competing sites will write in native language of course).

    2. Inner pages are more targeted, so they tend to rank easier. Even though all your inner links point to your main "games" page, remember that gaming is an EXTREMELY saturated market, so ranking won't be easy and will take time (and a TON of games/inner links pointing to the main URL).

    Hope that helps

Why can't the sub-pages bring real traffic?

If I google Blue Shoes and I am taking to the home page, I'm less likely to end up buying than if I were taken to a page about blue shoes.

    Google makes sense.

If you tell Google you want to compete in Norway, it will take that your site is meant for people in Norway, show it higher there, lower in other places, all other things being equal.
