Most SEO's will tell you no, but I think the answer is that it depends. I still see some value in finding a niche appropriate sub-reddit to post our blog articles to.

However, it's not going to do much, if anything to your overall ranking. I just do it on occasion to increase our anchor text diversity and number of referring domains.

The biggest off-page gains are coming from editorial links on niche relevant authority sites. You have to earn those through outreach. Hope that helps answer your question.

Social bookmarking is good only if you can earn some backlinks.

There are some niches where social networking can bring you some targeted traffic but on the whole, social networks are a complete waste of time for most websites.

Google has said more times than anyone can count that links in social networks do not help you rank. Bing/Yahoo, on the other hand, specifically state in their webmaster guidelines to use social networks to boost your SEO, so things might be different with them.

As expmrb said, it is theoretically possible to earn links through social networking but the cases of that happening are few and far between - especially for things like eCommerce sites. If one out of 1,000 people that use social networks even have a website that they can link to you from, I would be shocked in most market niches.

Social bookmarking has great effect on keyword ranking.
Always try to post on high authority sites.
Before going to social bookmarking, you should make sure about on-oage seo.

Bookmark is very useful to make backlinks for a website. It is works nice with high DA sites, but one thing it wont be worth if one site is submitted in one site again and again, but one site can be submitted in one site after 2 months.

Given it is a good do follow social bookmarking site, it can generate more traffic and, of course, give you quality backlinks. There is really no such thing as "waste of time" with right strategy and attitude.

Social bookmarking plays an important role as it is a way for users to stock, manage, search, and operate "bookmarks" of website pages. In Seo, they are helpful for building backlinks through different Social Bookmarking sites. Users save links to web pages that they like or want to share, using social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking is also simultaneously known as folksonomy, collaborative tagging, social classification, social indexing, and social tagging.

    Social Bookmarking Sites:
    1. Digg
    2. Delicious
    3. Stumbleupon
    4. Scoop.it
    5. Reddit
    6. Bizsugar
    7. Slashdot
    8. Scoop.it
    9. Newsvine

Sigh ... I often get very frustrated on this forum watching the blind leading the blind down the path to nowhere. Social bookmarks absolutely will not help your site rank and could very well get it penalized.

Check out bullet point #8 in Google's Link Schemes page, where it lists "Low-quality directory or bookmark site links" as a violation of their Webmaster Guidelines - https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/66356?hl=en

I'm not sure why you are surprised. More people than not here seem to still believe that comment links, forum links, directory links, press release links, Web 2.0 properties, social network links and more schemes from a decade ago than I can remember are still valid ways of boosting your rankings. Why not add social bookmarking to the list of bad advice?

It only helps if it generates backlinks from other sites. Having a link from Twitter, Facebook etc.. has no direct ranking value, BUT if a user of the social media network visits your site from the network and decided to link to it from their blog you've gained a backlink (assuming it's not nofollowed).

Think of it like a radio ad, can pull in direct traffic, but won't have much impact on your backlink profile.

True enough, but for most people here, if one out of 100 followers of theirs on Twitter, Facebook, etc. even has a website they can link to them from, I'd be shocked. Then, what percentage of that likely less than 1% will link to you?

I own Twitter accounts with 100,000+ followers, some of my accounts generate well over a million impressions a month. If a single Tweet shared over all of them generates 1 backlink a week it's worth it considering it's on top of the direct social network reach/traffic.

It all adds up. If I asked now for some of you to link to my SEO Gold site and one person drops me a link, was worth asking: I was writing this response anyway, took me a few seconds to ask for the link (I don't seriously expect a link, just an example).

I wouldn't suggest putting a LOT of effort into social networks as a link building platform, there's far more effective link building techniques (greater ROI).

Very few of the people here are in the website industry, marketing to owners of websites like you are. You are not even close to the typical person on this forum that has just tossed up a website trying to sell some products. Especially for those in a traditional eCommerce/affiliate model, not only will you never get thousands of followers, but practically zero of the followers you do get will own a website.

I think social bookmarking can make more harm than good these days. Personally, I focus on creating useful and helpful content.

One thing that you should definitely look into is Pinterest.com when it comes to "modern" social bookmarking. I receive great results with it and it is quick and simple to use as well. Go to YouTube and find some "how to" videos about it.
