There is absolutely nothing new in 2018, just like there was nothing new in 2017 or 2016 ...

It has always been about providing stellar, helpful content and getting great, relevant websites to link to it.

Now, I know there are a whole lot of people here that think they have great backlinks because of mythical things like DA, PA, PR, etc. The truth is, the only thing that really matters with backlinks is whether or not they were editorially placed by another website that is relevant to your website. Even better, are links from websites that already rank well for terms that are related to the ones you are trying to rank for. (HINT: If you are able to place links on another person's website, yourself, you DO NOT have good backlinks.)

Finally, if you already have great on-page and off-page SEO, you should already be climbing the rankings. If you're not, maybe your on-page and off-page SEO is not as great as you think it is.

You can always check out articles and books online for SEO strategies this 2018, by well-known SEO enthusiasts. The search is no sweat with the internet providing a plethora of choices.

I will answer your question in another way, here are few SEO activites that you should avoid practising-
Keyword Stuffing
Spammy Footer Links
Cloaking
Too many Internal Links
Content Swapping

Alright I feel bad now. I am playing around with jokes and the OP is thanking all posts. So here is a more constructive list

1) out reach - contacting webmasters to link to you (quite a few will want pay, some others you might have developed relationships with - usually over years or combine the outreach with number 2.

2) content marketing - letting various outlets and webmasters know that you have content they might be interested in (only works if the content is really good and preferable unique and fresh). Some social marketing can work. Social links won't work directly but theres a small chance some social connection

Thats about it for google approved links for single sites. If you own other related real sites then you CAN generally link to them if they are real sites (several sites still have resource link pages and major companies link to business partners etc).

Less Google approved links?

PBNs (pretty much sites setup just for links AND are sites or domains that already have links). Pretty hard to spot if they are setup properly and you are not using sites that others are using but potential risk for sure (unlress they are real or pretty close to real)

Guest blogging - but boy do you have to get the right ones to be safe because guest blogging has come under target by Google as a link scheme. You probably want a site that publishes syndicated content and doesn't use the term "guest" on it at a minimum.

If you are in a niche where you don't care if the site gets penalized manually. A little bit of blog commenting can work (but the easy sites to get blog comment links from are spammed to death already or will be soon)

Social bookmarking , forum links etc are near worhtless. I guess its possible that you can get something going ina terribly weak serp but only terrible weak and many times nto even then

I have not tried any kind of tiered link bulding and the last time any of my associates used it they told me it had turn to dusts but I still see software beign used for it but only for craptacular niches where link spam is widely used anyway so possibly

Here's the same thing that has worked every year.

1. Providing value
2. Common sense
3. Caring less about what Google wants and moreso about what your visitors want
4. Thinking long term
5. Avoiding BS shortcuts and "quick win" methods
6. Working your face off

To get a good ranking in the search engine, you must first do your onpage correctly. Then you should focus on just publishing good content on your website. It will work for every year, because if the content of your website is good, people will automatically mention your website in their content.

But now you think without awareness how people will get to know it, right? Then you can use social media platforms to make your website / brand awareness and also good websites such as medium for content curation.

You should use all the activities of SEO with adwards. Without adwards, you will never get which you deserve.

Start Building some high quality backlinks ,Few DO follow and few no follow links

Update content on your website or blog daily which should contain links to internal pages and high authority websites

Length of content should be atleast 1000 words
