The more I see the "how do I build backlinks?" question here and on Quora I wanted to share my thoughts to clue you in.
2 building blocks form the foundation for a successful backlink building campaign:
valuable content and close buddies from your niche.
The bloggers and internet marketers who dominate the first few pages of Google for competitive or semi-competitive keywords are incredibly skilled at creating valuable content across a wide range of channels. Said bloggers and IMers also established strong, genuine friendships with top folks in their niche, leading to guest posting opportunities, co-promotion, interviews and link drops aka backlinks. These bloggers became friends with top bloggers by generously promoting these blogging big dawgs, by patiently commenting genuinely on their blogs and by being of service.
Think of it this way guys; high quality backlinks are earned over months and years. You will not leap frog Neil Patel in a week or even in 6 months on Google. He has created massive amounts of inspired content and built his friend network generously, over years. Naturally, he has oodles of fabulous backlinks because he earned 'em, through his generosity. But if you are willing to be generous over months and years, focusing on building helpful content, and building helpful bonds, you'll gain a steady amount of backlinks and some sweet Google traffic too.
Move your focus from building inanimate objects (backlinks) to generously serving human beings (creating helpful content and generously promoting top bloggers in your niche). Even if it takes a while to build backlink juice and Google traffic, the content you create persistently and friendships you genuinely build will yield increasing organic returns, growing your quality backlinks, traffic and profits organically.
The most skilled backlink builders I know are fabulous content creators and relationship builders.
