Hi,

I recently started a website in March https://www.youredmontonhomeinspections.com and I am trying to get it to the first page so I can generate leads and pass them on to clients.

This is my first attempt and I am relatively new to this. I am hoping to eventually be able to build up my passive income using a variety of online methods.

Anyway so so far this is what I've done:

1 - I have a blog and post content every single week and I have 2 content writers writing for me as well (looking to add more writers too)

2 - I researched the websites that are already ranking on the first page using http://www.seoreviewtools.com/valuab...links-checker/
Some of the websites I researched are:

I saw all the backlinks they had and then I basically copied them. So if you check their backlinks you would see that at least one of the three listed above would have a link coming from the following websites:

www.instapaper.com
www.folkd.com
https://www.bowldi.ca
https://www.iglobal.co
http://www.infignos.com/
https://www.canadianhomeimprovements4u.com/
www.inspectordatabase.com
http://www.expressbusinessdirectory.com

To me, it doesn't make sense that the websites already ranking have these links showing up but my website doesn't. Also, the link form bowldi.ca did show up for a couple of days but since a couple of days ago it doesn't show up.

I've tried many online backlink checkers including Google Web Master Tools links to my website, smallseotools, cognitiveseo, and more.

Some of the links have been existing for up to 3 weeks but still don't show up. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks a million!

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply! As I said I'm pretty new to this so I'm not sure what you mean by "did I cache my profile and posts"? Could you please explain this?

Also, for instapage I basically clicked on the heart symbol they have for all the articles if that counts for anything?

Thanks for your help, if you have any resources you can share send them my way I'm eager to learn as much as I can

    1) Stop looking at 3rd party backlink checkers since you already know the backlinlink sources/URLs. You created the links, either they exist or they don't.

Google is the only Google, link checkers are slow to crawl the web, update data (weeks/months) and will NEVER scrape a fraction of the web compared to Google bots.

    2) The Google cache of the backlink page is all you need to prove Google found the backlink. Look at the cache page (text version) or cache page HTML source code. Look at the cache page date, has to be a date after you've built the backlink.

    3) You're doing local SEO. Add citations to the mix.

    4) You're up against established/ranked pages, matching their link profile won't get you far. Match the links and then do better.

    5) I assume you already know about nofollow.

      Thank you for the advice

I'll take a look at the page cache when I get back from work tomorrow and see if they have updated since I posted the links.

When you say add citations do you mean like write an article and then have references pointing to where I got this information from?

Might sound silly but I'm not sure what it could mean, if this is the case then how does citing other websites help me rank?

      Thanks

If you're doing SEO for a Home Inspector, you should probably suggest that they join NACHI and ask them to post there at least 2-3 times a month in the forum there.

I know I might catch some heat for suggesting forum link-building, but I know this industry. Most of the Home Inspector sites out there have some super-shady backlinks going on and seem to rank just fine.

Links from InterNACHI are at least going to be topically relevant, and if your client knows his stuff he can contribute a lot to the discussion there.

You might also want to do a Google search for home inspector <city> <state> and compile a list from all the ranking home inspection sites in each major US city. Then you can pitch guest posting on their sites for them in exchange for an author bio link.

If this was my account, those are the type of links I would go after. I wouldn't bother with social bookmarking on sites like Folkd. Sure, your competition has those links, but they were probably created years ago when SEO's were still bothering with bookmark links. They aren't going to hurt the site in all likelihood, but they won't help much either.

      Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. Initially the idea I had was to interview the home inspection business owners in Edmonton and have them link to the interview on their sites. I tried reaching out to a few of them but they completely ignored me. I don't have a client just yet so no internachi posts. I'm just hoping to eventually get to the first page and then feed the leads to a client that I will eventually find

    Hi Etuo,

Yukon noted it buddy; these are established sites. They will beat ya every time Until you establish your blog, by posting helpful content persistently over the course of years.

Google basically gives props to sites that have paid their dues. If these site owners and their authors are creating helpful content for a number of years these sites will rank.

I think you are learning too; no way to game Google. Even though you have been at it for a bit I suspect the big G is looking for a bunch more sites to link to your blog, with those sites being big time authority sites, and links occurring organically.

This takes time, patience and willingness to trust in the process over the long haul. You're getting there but remember; good things take time.

      Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the words of encouragement
The thing that threw me off the most is seeing one of the links that I placed in a directory show up and then a few days later disappear.

I've read in a few places that google ignores links that you place in a directory type site. So this got me wondering of that is why that happened and should I stop placing links in directories? That also raised the question that why those same links show up on the competition?

My site already has like 5 posts which is probably way more than most of the home inspection company websites in Edmonton have.

I'm thinking that the best strategy right now is to just keep making posts with good keywords. Yesterday I realized that some of the posts started ranking. ex: type "Grow your home inspection business Edmonton" would give my post on page 1.

That being said, that's very low competition and probably won't drive the traffic I need.
My logic is that I build a lot of these and then do some internal linking to rank 1 page in a place that would actually get serious traffic. What do you all think?

And should I continue placing links in directory type websites?

      Thank you!

I haven't done any research but I doubt that keyword even gets searched once a year. It just doesn't look right from a searchers POV.

The keyword home inspection business Edmonton obviously would be searched but odds are the competition is completely different on the SERPs for both keyword phrases.

Links you create disappear because the owner of the site you are linkint to you from took down the page (or just deleted the part with your link). As in, you post a comment, it gets accepted, then the owner changes his/her/it/their mind(s) and deletes your comment.

@Blakers: The difference here: the OP is not a home inspector. In my experience, local companies get some leeway from Google when it comes to local SEO.

I visited your site. You've got posts aimed at homeowners and posts aimed at home inspectors/companies. Why? Even more, you have one post for one group, one for the next.

At best, you're confusing homeowners, at worst, you're turning them off.

I am not your target audience... but your concept, not so good. You want a blog to attract people who might want to hire a home inspector? Give them useful info. Yes, I know, you have a couple of articles about how to choose a home inspector. They're general, not that helpful. The Home Buying process is utter crap! Really, get good content.

On top of that, you're talking to a bunch of writers and home inspectors.

On top of that, you have no signs of credibility, not even a lousy phone number on your site that starts with whatever digits Edmonton phone numbers start with.

Posts for homeowners and home inspectors: I see your point I'll consider removing the ones targeted at home inspectors.

One post for one group: the site is less than a months old and I am posting 1 post per week so this is purely a matter of time.

Get good content: Yes that's what I'm trying to do. Not sure what you think is wrong with the home buying process? If you could elaborate that would be great and I'll keep it in mind for the future posts. Also, might as well check out the post I put out today and let me know what you think.

Talking to writers and home inspectors: yes, again I don't see what the problem is here. I give the writers the topics, a few writing guidelines (pretty much what Yoast SEO says), some keywords and they each create 1 article every week. The point of reaching out to home inspectors is to get them to link to my website, again I don't see any issues for any of these. If you can elaborate that would be great.

No signs of credibility: Yes you are right, I could spend like $600 on a BBB badge but I don't think it's worth it. I also prefer not to have my phone number on there but I might end up adding it if it helps with citations after some WF members pointed out above. Any other ideas about how to show credibility and authority? Anyway this point would be an easy fix but thanks for pointing it out.

If I am home owner looking for home inspectors and come upon a site that speaks to writers and homeowners and home inspectors, I'm out of there, it's not for me. I want a 'serious' home inspector, one I can trust and one that knows his business...

Your site says nothing that makes me think you're trustworthy or know your business.

The content about buying a home is generic stuff, things someone read on the internet and is regurgitating, things that add no value to your prospect's life.

You're less likely to inspect a condo, but if you had an article about how buying a condo is different than buying a home, because getting a loan is riskier, because you have to worry about the budget and how much they set aside for reserves and how lenders don't like it if too many units are rented, etc., with specifics... Like... a 6-unit condo association did not feel the need to have a budget. (Bill comes, amount gets split 6 way, 5 of us give Mary our share, Mary pays the bill. Why do you need a budget for that?)

And what needs to happen to get a loan if you want to buy into such an association.

        That would be useful.

Your content is long on words, short on content.

It can take weeks or even months for backlinks to start showing up, and some may not even get picked up at all, and this really depends on the quality of your backlinks; SEO is the slowest method on this planet if you are expecting to get anywhere fast, otherwise, if you think you are in a hot niche, then it could take up to a year or longer for you to see something positive; Google simply just does not move that fast on new sites, and on top of that the 6mo sandbox (if you believe) in that will hold you back, otherwise, you might see something moving within 8-12 months, if not, then analyze your niche again.

    Want fast/instant results?

Thank you everyone for all your feedback, good advice, and encouragement. Your replies have helped a lot and I already incorporated some of this advice. I will definitely update everyone once a few months have passed.

It's true that this is my first time and I basically have 0 experience with SEO. That being said I am definitely hungry to learn and have been doing so a lot. If anyone ever has a good resource they'd like to recommend definitely send it my way!

    Thank you,
    Etuo
