Key Ranking Factors for 2018

So 2017 was full of Google algorithm updates and I was curious as to what everyone is implementing when they first take on a client as far as immediate ranking factors on a site. Obviously, there will be the updates that a site is missing such as HTTP to HTTPS conversions and mobile-friendly sites. As an agency, what are your immediate actions to take that will rank a site during 2018 the fastest in your opinion?

    Google keep updating every day and every month implement something new which affects our SEO ranking. this year mobile-friendly sites and Voice search will play an important role.

    Google has made multiple updates and will continue to do so in the future. As for ranking, I guess it will still come down to the basics- On Page seo, Off Page Seo, Blog outreach (not so easy).

    On-page and traffic are starting to matter a whole lot more.

    Aside from everything else (https conversion, mobile-friendly, socials, citations) I'd clean up their on-page and start a small traffic campaign (click and search as well as social).

    I think backlink is still playing an important role with unique contents in SEO.

    I will give you 4 tips to grow your website's search visitors:

    1.Try to write premium content that no one else in your industry can afford (please, this is very expensive and you shouldn't focus on money but rather helping as many people as you can),

    2. Remember that you are building a business thus you should be helping your visitors instead as much as you can instead of just selling them. What I know is that the more people you can help, the more money you make and this happens naturally (not overnight of course)

    3. Writing long-form of content by experienced writers (if you are not one) optimized for SEO and humans should be your goal.

    4. For example, If you write a 3000-word article, you should write 12000-word articles for o/other people to send backlinks to your content thus promote it for you.

    Remember the 80/20 rule: 20 should be written on your website and 80 written for other people to send you traffic thus you can rely less on search engine traffic, but instead referral traffic which increases authority and trust (make sure you write content for websites in your industry to get targeted traffic).

      That is not the 80/20 rule.The 80/20 rule is that 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers.

      Giving away 80% of your content to other sites seems like an awful strategy to me. If you really are writing that good of content, 80% of it should stay on your own site.

        I agree with 1, 2 and 3, but the rest I don't quite agree with. I am not saying it won't work, but if you create incredible content, what I call Super Articles, and you do the legwork to check out your competition and who links to them, you don't need to create content for anybody else's website.

        I wouldn't do the 80/20 rule in this manner if I were creating content for others, too, i.e. guest posts. I would probably make it more of a 30/70 rule with 30% of the content for others and 70% for my own website.

        Personally, I believe if the content on your site is incredible, you will get links without need to publish your work on other sites.

    Look at the content. Does it provide great value for the visitor? Is it skimmable and easy to read?

    So often, websites don't rank well because they go cheap on the content. They think it doesn't matter that much when it's truly the foundation of SEO. Without great content, you'll always be chasing ways to rank your site instead of enjoying a steady, high ranking.
