What Happens To 1 or 2 Year Old Backlinks? Help Me Please!

Hello,

I was just doing blog commenting on few of high DA websites (with disqus comment box) and found that my old comments are not at all showing as a backlink anymore.

Let it be a forum backlink, blog comment or article, the old links are just disappeared. Can anyone please tell me why? Should I be active in disqus blog commenting or forum posting to keep my backlinks active???

Can I make them active again? If yes, then how?

If you are leaving blog comments for links, your comments are going to get deleted most of the time. Website owners don't want your spam.

It doesn't matter, the Disqus text/links are not in the HTML source code of the backlink page.

It is possible that the sites you have commented on or done forum posting are no longer active and so your backlinks are removed.

You don't need to remain active for disqus comments to be alive.

Yeah, I got it now. Even the sitepoint gurus have mentioned that backlinks are no longer beneficial for ranking. Doing so, will have the chances of getting penalized.

Only the content matters for now.

If anyone is saying that backlinks are no longer beneficial for ranking, they have zero idea what they are talking about. I would stop listening to anything else they have to share.

Backlinks still work very well indeed and the person who says otherwise is plain wrong.

However, it's possible to rank without links even in very competitive niches. Google is aiming to stop relying on backlinks to rank website through A.I (rankbrain algorithm). However, they are not there yet.

In a near or far future, backlinks won't have as much strength if any compared as they do now in SEO. Google will rely mostly on user intent (guessing what the person is searching while typing in the search box) or on user experience (which website offers the best experience to the user). It has already started and yes, backlinks still work very well so I use them!

Concerning the first question of this thread, using blog post comments as backlinks might work for a link out of many (if you found easily a link opportunity) but avoid using them as a main SEO tool.

No it is not. That is BS.

Show me one website ranking at the top of a very competitive SERP with no backlinks.

the question will only be responded to the same way it always has been

            A) no answer at all
            B) a whole lot of text with no answer
            C) an answer that isn't even the least bit competive.

The SEO gurus says this is happening now! I'm not really sure about that, but they say so. And also I went through the link schemes guidelines - https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/66356?hl=en

I seriously don't understand how the SEO agencies working when google clearly states that buying/selling, paid guest posting gives negative impact on ranking.

Ridiculous. You asked a question on a forum and some people answered. How does that make them "gurus"?

Search engines no longer care about how many links you have. They have long since realised that it's much too easy to manipulate that metric - hence they all now have policies which will penalise anyone found creating links with the intention of influencing search results. Search engines are in the business of returning the best pages for any given search term, so quality content is the most important factor.
If search engines no longer care about links, then why would they bother penalizing people for building links? They are contradicting their own argument.

I think the blog or website owners delete your comments that's why your old back links are disappearing.

Spamming comments for acquiring backlinks is an old "method" which if ever had a success, now it's catchable quite easy and don't work.

    You time has a value.

So use it for producing good content and outsource the backlinks phase to someone specialized in seo

And guys, to be clear, my comments have not been removed by the owners (I have checked almost 90% of them).

And most of the comments were from similar blogs of DA 40, 46, 50 and 60. But still they don't show in my backlink profile now, weird.

Of course they don't show. They don't exist. They were removed.

Most commenting systems like Disqus save comments if bloggers deactivate comments or simply trash the system, but in some cases, where comments are not preserved, worry not. Think abundantly. Keep posting genuine comments on forums and top blogs from your niche. Your old and new link juice grows but more than that, you will keep making friends wherever you turn. Fab way to grow your blog and business.
