    Hafiz,

Wordpress is the best for SEO....better than HTML.

First of all HTML takes too much trouble to code and the learning curve may even discourage you from keeping SEO optimized. Also, if you will have to make changes constantly to keep attracting search engines.

Wordpress by nature has several "built in" functions that keep attracting search engines. You have the "ping" function, categories and tags, the ability for the user to add content daily, RSS feeds, user generated content when someone makes a comment. The only other plugin you would need is "ALL IN ONE SEO," which enables you to add further keywords and keyword phrases and Meta descriptions. There is just so much more Wordpress can do all at once to "beef" up your site.

    Hope that helps,

    Bruce

Depends what you want to accomplish. All the above can easily be put into HTML if you can 'read it'... or recognize it, even just a little.

When it comes down to getting something to act how you want it to, html is much easier to customize.

To be frank, there is way too much hype and fluff about onpage seo features for WordPress... it's not that hard to optimize a site and it's amazing how many people get it wrong even in WordPress.

Google will not care if your page is an html document or a wordpress page. It all depends on what you put inside the document. A wordpress post consists of nothing but HTML code. There's nothing magical about wordpress itself that makes it better for SEO. It is simply that wordpress (generally) lays out the data in a way the search engines like. That is not always true though and it depends on the theme you are using.. some are horrible for seo.

      Thank you patJ!

i guess so...what you say make total sense.

So wordpress is better i suppose.

It seems better though. Easier than html...

if i have two sites, similar content, meta tags, etc, which one will rank higher? wordpress or html?

Thank you so much patJ for your genuine input! :p

There is some nice functionality built into wordpress (and through simple plugins) that can really automate how "seo friendly" your website is. I would use wordpress, with the "ALL IN ONE SEO" plugin mentioned above as it will save you a lot of time that you can better spend working on your content and marketing. Good luck!

Here's 5 reasons off the top of my head why WordPress is better than HTML for SEO.

    1) Automatic pings tell the search engines you have new content
    2) Most WP themes use the Silo structure to organize pages
    3) Automatic RSS feeds
    4) Instant Site Map generator plugins
    5) SEO plugins to maximize page rank and internal linkbuilding

Sure there are scripts that can be installed on an HTML website that will pretty much do the same stuff as above but not nearly as quick and user friendly.

I am begining to be convinced that WORDPRESS is way superior. lol...

      Any html fans out there?

Soon html sites may be in less demand. this would also include minisites, salespages, etc.

wordpress seems superior to me now.

HTML site or Wordpress - Both can bring the same exact results, SEO has nothing to do with the system you use, it has to do with you doing the SEO. Yes wordpress has plugins to make it easier but an html site can do the exact same thing.

Yeah, I don't get this comparison myself. I build websites with html and because it's "harder to learn" doesn't make it worse for SEO, that's an unrelated issue. I guess if you don't know how to build websites, wordpress is better, but if you do, it doesn't make a whit of difference.

    Thank you.

    Here's something to consider...

    the purpose of your site...

    For example:

Are you looking to create an

    - AdSense® site?

    or

    - Affiliate review site?

WordPress generally is great for SEO... but the "look" of your site matters too.

If you are going for an AdSense site, the conventional wisdom among SEO/AdSense® experts is that they get better click-thru rates if the sites "look" like simple static HTML sites, with the ad-block at the top of the page just below the headline of your article...

    Note the emphasis on *look*...

In other words... you can always use a WordPress blog to control your content and get the SEO benefits an such BUT still use a theme that makes it look as if it was a static website.

If you are going for an Affiliate review-type site, then you can have a more dynamic look and for example encourage user comments, but I would still use a theme that doesn't look like a typical blog template...

    And here's an interesting story...

Frank Kern once mentioned that people have different mindsets depending on whether they they are visiting a blog (equals "entertainment", "discussion", "fun")

    or...

a tightly themed "static" mini-site where the focus is on one main subject

(because... that's where your visitor may find exactly what they are looking for --> relevant information --> relevant ads --> click-click...)

YMMV. Templates, php includes, page builders such as xsitepro all make creating static sites easier and less time consuming. For sheer speed of getting a site up, yes, Wordpress + Fantastico at my ISP is hard to beat. But I like sites that sell, and for me the magazine theme, or traditional blog formats don't cut it. By the time I've customized WP to do what I want, I could build a static site and not have the security concerns.

I see no one talked about the horrid security track record wordpress has, I guess that must all be fixed now.

I agree with that. It's also easier to manage everything with WordPress and with the right theme and plugins you can get the benefits of both static looking websites and the power of dynamic sites.

All the time. Oft repeated amongst those that don't know how to build a proper site, and for them it's the truth as they don't know how to build a site that ranks so a cms that gets them 80% the way there is a huge win.

      Hi Hafiz,

This is one of the funniest threads I have read in a while. Everyone who said HTML is better than Wordpress for SEO is wrong, But wait, everyone who said that Wordpress is better than HTML is also wrong.

Why? This is a trick question.

Wordpress creates all pages as HTML therefore it cannot be better, or worse than itself. Wordpress is a tool that is used to create HTML, there are many other tools, so you might ask which tool or CMS is better for creating HTML, but you cannot ask if a CMS is better than HTML since it is just a tool. How you use your tools determines how good your HTML will be for SEO, not which tool you use.

      Thanks for amusing us!
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1297224].message }}
      • Profile picture of the author WareTime
So then dburk since all sites are html, they should all rank the same. The number one site is html and my site is html, therefore...

This thread is about a site built using wordpress or one built with html via hand coding, dreamweaver or other static site and which would be better for ranking.

Google doesn't love any technology for making sites more than any other, it's just that for a lot of folks, WP manages to make less mistakes than they make on their own building a site and therefore ranks better than "html" for them, but a lot of people parrot that WP is the best way to go for all. For some it is. It would be helpful if the OP's of these this or that threads would give a full blown description of the type of site they want to build, how much time they want to spend on it, an what the criteria are going forward.

I promise not to participate in the identical to this thread that will no doubt start tomorrow about 10 posts above this one.

If you know what you are doing, you can rank better with HTML. That's a conclusion on my research not experience. However, if you don't know how to optimize an HTML webpage, it is better to go with Wordpress. The good thing about Wordpress and what it makes so attractive is that it has many built in seo features and plugins.

@evertd, you are answering an altogether different question, i thought the thread was to discuss SEO

Apart from pinging search engines, tagging, etc which help give WordPress a better performance over HTML, there are a couple of other reasons why blogs may be useful for SEO
    1. Google and other search engines have limited bandwidth, using conditional gets is recommended so that search engines only update changed content. HTML doesn't support this but WordPress does. So search engines are likely to crawl the site more often as they don't have to download the entire site in the case of wordpress
    2. A lot of people use comments on others blogs. Some blogs have plugins like commentluv which post a additional link to the latest post of the commentor

      Which is better?

      Both....

You can do well with either type site - it depends on what you put into it.

I will say I've never met a person who builds their own sites who couldn't use WP - but I've met a lot of WP users who have no idea how to build a site.

Just a thought - good to know how to do both and then decide which you prefer.

After sorta browsing the responses the big question I never saw asked was...

why type of site do you want to build?

Both a static HTML page and a CMS site like wordpress both have their advantages. Are you going to be continually adding new content or is this a single page sales page?

Wordpress offers a lot of wiz-bang wizardy and neato plugins but can also be an over-bloated hog.

Everyone seems to be in love with All-In-One SEO, but really, everything it does can be changed in a themes code and if you write your own HTML pages or WP themes you can set all of that SEO stuff from the start and not have to bother with additional plug-ins bogging down your site.

In the end, no matter what you use, all the SE's see is the final HTML so it really makes no difference what you use or how you do it.

You can pick your tools and then base your work around them or decide what you want to do and pick the tools that fit your needs.

    so, once again...

what type of site do you want to build?

then pick the tools to make it happen

I also just usually change few small bits in my theme to fix the most important on-page-SEO elements, because I just prefer to put texts and content in a CMS and not deal with static templates.

That's even for simple small sites I build... and I am actually a programmer and HTML is not the slightest problem. I just like the CMS capabilities of WordPress. That's why I use it... although my sites usually don't look like blogs. WP is just a cool CMS in my opinion.

Oh, here we go baby... lol. I use both, but mostly html. I like the control, and you can make html act like WP with PHP...

It depends what I'm doing. If I need a support blog or a membership site I'll throw up a WP blog or add it to an html site. If I want a high converting sales letter, lead generator, adsense, or affiliate commission generator I use html.

However, there are a lot themes that mimic simple layouts now... both can give you headaches, depending on what you want to do!

Whichever you go with just make sure your keyword phrase is in the following (if possible):

    Title Tags

    Header Tags

    Meta Keywords

    Meta Description

Mentioned a couple to a few times in the body

Note: If possible, put in a few LSI keywords. Don't overthink this if you get confused when you're looking up "LSI Keywords". Many are naturally placed when you write the content.

Then link back to that page from other sites with that keyword.

Even if you screw all your onpage factors, you can still rank for your keyword by building backlinks with the right anchor text.

Just look up "click here" in Google. Look at the source code and tell me where "click here" is located

    - It depends, the most important is your website structure and backlinks if you want to play SEO game.

    - Choose html site if you plan to create few pages static website; go for wordpress if you plan to add contents for your website in future and long-term seo plan.

And if i use wordpress what must i need for pluggins?
    - all in one seo
    - Google sitemap
    - Google analytics
    - MBP ping optimiser

these are the basic plugins to go for a niche sites.

and if html is good for seo, what do i need to have in my html sites to get super and highly optimized?
    - Your main keyword on the title and post headline in H1 tag
    - Clean theme are advisable for fast loading.
