Hi guys,

I have a dilemma and what better brains to pick than those of fellow warriors.

I made the mistake of going to broad with keyword targeting on a page. It was an experiment of sorts and did not pan out.

So, instead of being precise and making a separate posts about, say, "best red apples", "best yellow apples"...etc...I went with "best apples" and tried to cover everything in the post.

I then got some nice links to it but it, but results are noting to write home about. Basically, I tried to get it all and got diddly-squat.

My question is - what do you guys think I can expect if I write a new "narrower" post and 301 the old gigantic page to a more focused one. The sources & anchors of the links will be still highly relevant, but the the post would focus on only a part of the keywords.

I'm afraid the links might be devalued since the page will be very different.

Thanks for your thoughts in advance

If a new post you can create a site page instead of 301 redirect. Its better to preserve the old pages because there is a possibility that Google still index the page and showed to the users.

What do you mean? Just change the existing page?
