Hi community,

We wanna give a try by removing all the links from homepage to internal pages and keep just a free trial button. Will this impact our SEO anyway? We have nearly 15 important internal pages at 2nd and 3rd hierarchy level. They may drop in rankings but we want to risk for few days to understand how it works. Your opinion please!

Thanks

If you want to lose rankings from those pages (suppose you are doing negative SEO), that's really good, let do it.

You don't risk for a few days with SEO.

If you want to take the risk, fine, do it but the risk could be long term or permanent depending on If your current ranking is barely hanging on.

Actually internal linking is the easy gateway of another service of the page, sometime visitor can be don't click any tab of the site but they might be interest about the article. Main thing of the internal linking is easily go to the another page of the website.

Two best reason not to remove internal links are:
Getting strong bound of INternal links for SEO
    Better crawling for new content.

How in the world would anybody ever find those internal pages if they are not linked to anywhere from the home page? And yes, it very well could and probably will hurt the rankings of those pages.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Everybody says not to remove internal links from homepage as if its going to hurt severely which I didn't expect. I have seen good number of websites which don't link from homepage to internal pages to make visitors to stick to the homepage and go through some CTA buttons. I would say crazyegg as one of the examples. Anyhow, we are going to link from footer menu which will be the last choice for a visitor to browse through homepage at the end. Is this such wrong approach? I don't think this is a black hat technique to get penalised by Google.

Crazyegg links their pages in the footer of their homepage. They don't put anything in the header.

OP can try that, it forces the user to read the whole page before leaving.

    My opinion?
You're either the biggest troll from Trollsylvania or it's time for you to see brain Doctor.

What I would like to know, what's the point and why would you think it makes sense?
How it would help you to understand something even in theory is too obvious to ignore?
Why are you trying to brake something that isn't broken and will take time to fix it?

If you can't answer my questions, then read again "My Opinion" and take my advice.

you will lose the ranking. but its not the main site you can do experiments though. but not recommended from my side. and you mentioned that you will add the internal links to footer it may help but its better to use internal links in your posts as well as in the footer.

What exactly are you hoping to gain insight into with this trial? To me it makes zero sense to do this, especially as you know you are going to lose visibility in the search results.
