While practicing this SEO thing, I have heard lots and lots of things. Lots of do's and dont's. And the thing is that the dos and donts change, they get updated. One myth I have heard is that once your site gets to page 1 of SERP's, your SEO work is done. But really! Can SEO we ever be done with? Can we ever achieve that height in SEO where we no longer have to do anything and still remain relevant?
Let's get this place buzzing, what are your thoughts? Share SEO myths that you have heard if you will?

Getting 1st page is all depends on how good you are in fooling G.
Sometimes it's easy or too easy and you will grab lion share of traffic,
but... but sooner or later G. will get your number and then... no matter
what you do, you'll go down to page 5 or way below simply because G.
will be too busy to deal with next SEO tricks.

Take it from someone who has site on top for dozens KW for a few years.
And then, Algo is constantly changing and the only way you'll stay on top
if you know how to read changes and the smarts to fool G.

Really? How about using your smarts to follow their current suggestions as closely as possible instead of trying to game the system, by "fooling them?'

And, yes - life is change. When the rules change, change with them.

I think.... If the targeted audience are visiting your site because of relevant content, then after that you just to be relevant about your content which is enough for ranking.
but with your content you have to fulfill the on-page requirements....

    Thanks

    - You can game page 1
    - SEO is easy
    - You can hack SEO

The list goes on and on.

SEO is a skill. Takes years to develop that skill to the point of reaching page 1 for multiple keywords.

Tell that to @OptedIn because for him something obvious is out of realm of reality.
Simple truth, only 2% know what SEO is and those who are blindingly follow G. as a rule
posting here, asking why after all they done following all rules, they are still below water.

Here are some that I found that crack me up:
    1) Content is the only thing you need: Some people believe that content is the prime and probably the only thing that you need. Which is absolutely wrong. People take the famous phrase *Content is King* too literally. Content is NOT the only thing, its merely a part of things that are important. Accompanied by links, design and usability.
    2) Speed id NOT that important : Its a sad and widespread myth that site-loading speed is not that important. This myth needs to die. Site loading speed needs to be under 3 seconds. Based on many studies, a user looses interest if it takes more than that and tends to close the tab or presses back. Site loading speed needs to to be excellent (<3 sec)
    3) Links are Dead : Links are not dead. If anything, they're here to stay. You need to build links to your website from authority websites. also from other sites. A balance needs to be maintained between both DoFollow and NoFollow links. Even the interlinking on the website should be optimal.

Whilst true that the big G always changes their styles, it is not a big transformation and there's always a way how to deal with it. Just keep updated on what is going on inside Google. If you website is that popular, Google can't do anything about it, just keep going, follow G's system and make your website beneficial to the masses and you'll be ok. And don't forget to take good care of your followers because they're the one who'll keep you in place.

Once you are on no 1 position in google to retain the position you have to keep doing for a while to remain at a position else the ranking will drop. but now a days SEO is about providing a value to the user if your content is providing the value then you don't have to worry much.

I, personally think that SEO cannot get finished for any site because if any site get into 1st rank in SERP's then to maintain its rank SEO should be done regularly because of its competitors as they are also trying to be in 1st rank and if they got succeed in doing that then it will be tough to get recovery.

As others have said, SEO is a diffcult skill that takes years to master. I have never hear of anyone saying once you get to page one you can just sit back and relax. No you can't. At some point, you'll want to move beyiond organic search engine traffic targeting and bypass the big G altogether. Work towards achieving that status
