Haven't visited the forum recently but to be fair, I did get a LOT of very good SEO advise from this forum when I first started and kept coming back to it whenever I ran into trouble and the forum has many friendly experts. I tried other SEO forums but you get condescending diatribes from know it alls reminding me of how ignorant I'm on this subject.

I don't think so.
SEO is about getting best SERP by all the means necessary no matter

  The main idea of my message was not to try the so-called 'Black hat' SEO techniques on your main project if you're not sure enough how to do it not getting penalized. Just saying it because I've recently tried to make a PBN myself and it didn't work well. Though I know many SEOs using them successfully.

I even can't describe SEO in one sentence. Because there is no shortcut in SEO I think. You must have decent knowledge if you would like to start your website SEO. First you should complete your on-page seo by doing keyword research, set meta tag, title tag and description. And the start off-page seo. Here are some of the legitimate methods which are really useful for seo:

2) Email Outreach
3) Forum Posting
4) High PR Bookmarking
5) Profile Link Building
6) Local Listing
7) Blog Comments
8) Internet Marketing

You should always use a unique description. Because if the readers always get unique content then they will inspire and visit your website.

SEO is very broad to pick out one thing, but if I am going to do just that, then I'd go with keywords research. Keywords research is one of if not the most important jigsaw in SEO puzzle. Research for long tail keywords, optimize them on your website, but if you would like and have the budget to compete with the top guys in your niche regarding short keywords, then you have to be better than them in almost everything, mostly with better content in quality and quantity!

I'm no SEO expert but I do have a good enough understanding of it for it to be a bona fide marketing engine for me that generates tens of thousands of dollars in client acquisitions every year.

For what it's worth, my biggest tidbit of advice would be to target long tail keywords that people are searching for but nobody else is writing about, and go after them in volume, consistently.

The whole "just create quality content and people will come" thing is such a load of crap. I wrote to an audience of nobody for 2 years following that advice.

Dont create backlinks just create healthy and valuable content.

Though I wont follow this myself since if you are not creating backlinks the entity will take time to rank but when it does it wont go down even after any updates are pushed by google. And all you need is to focus upon is the site design and content of website.
