Do I Need to Host Images on My Website to Enjoy SEO Benefits?

I'm weighing the pros and cons of keeping my relatively large website's collection of images on my website and just working to make them more efficient on my host OR ALTERNATIVELY hosting them elsewhere/on a CDN.

My question is that if I use the latter option, will I still be able to reap SEO benefits from the optimized images? Right now I'm used to titling/alt texting my images for the keywords I'm targeting and I enjoy a bit of traffic from Google images and similar search engines from it; would this completely change if I changed my images' home?

Where the images are hosted will not affect things SEO-wise, unless the speed slows down appreciably. Chances are, a CDN solution would speed up image processing, so if anything at all, it would help.

Yes unless the speed of your website is affected there is no other way an image will affect your ranking negatively, in fact as you had mentioned you can use it to reap benefits SEO by playing with keyword and engaging your audience for longer time.

for image you can use image optimization for speedup your website. And yes images play vital role in SEO. When you search for your website in google there is option of Images where google shows all the website which you inserted in your website admin. So we cant leave as unusable

Hosting images on a separate domain can speed things up a bit. Browsers download about 5-6 resources at once from a single domain. If you move your pictures into a separate domain, the browser will be able to load them in parallel with your scripts and styles. This will make the page load faster for users on a broadband connection.

  • Sometimes, we see, when we are going to upload more images on our hosting, our hosting does not support this and started giving error. So, we have to buy high capacity hosting for images. Google Photos is the best for images.

To get the best benefit from image seo, the image url should be the same as your website url. As long as you fulfill this criteria there is no issue.

If you use another domain to host images it will help load site much faster than hosting images on your own hosts. (if you have too many images ). I will suggest free images hostings sites so you can upload unlimited photos.

Go with the CDN Laura; speeds things up and no difference with SEO. Can only improve things by making your site load more quickly.
