Hi, I have a roofing client and i noticed when looking in ahrefs i started getting lots of spammy DOFOLLOW backlinks from bigbigstyle and lukebryantour.

As shown here: https://www.screencast.com/t/7qJ95mJI

Looking at the sites, its pure spam. they are both exactly the same too. If i cant get them to remove the backlinks should i use the Google disavow tool?

I'm also considering disavowing scoop.it because there seems to be a lot of links from their too.

I know google algo discounts irrelivant links without you using the tool. But the problem is these spammy links are also in the roofing niche, so google may think i built them myself, thats another point pushing me more towards using the disavow for the first time.

What are your thoughts? Would you use the tool?

I did notice rankings dropped since these links have been placed. i went from 20 first page rankings to 10 in the last 3 weeks.

No. No one can make someone who is determent to use backlinking
to stop doing that, simply because, if they don't care to begin, what
makes you to believe that they will care what G. does?

Something could happen because of dozens of reasons that have nothing
to do with who's linking to you but simply because G's SERP adjustments.

Just relax and see what will happen

Unless those are the only three backlinks to your site, I wouldn't worry about it. The new Penguin algorithm filter will just ignore them. It only becomes a problem if the majority of your backlink profile is spam, which could trigger a manual action against your site.

If it helps ease your mind, though, you can disavow them if you want.

Versus just disavowing them I would aim to get a bunch more organic, reputable backlinks. Building bonds and sharing content helps a bunch of solid links to flow in slowly and steadily. Then you won't worry much about a few questionable links flowing your way.

Doubt your 10 lost places on page 1 is because of those 3 links. I wouldn't worry about those to be honest. Scoop.it is a pretty common one to pick up in analytics, so don't fret.

As for your lost rankings, remember when you hit page 1, you can get "manual reviews" from the big G, especially for the tougher keywords. Check your bounce rates, as "pogo-sticking" also plays a big part in loss of page 1 rankings, well, that and about a thousand other possible reasons (hosting server downtime, crawl errors, etc.)

One should never disavow.....end of story.

If you do, you are running on google hamster wheel and they love it.

I get 800 dofollow backlink by a spam website in the same industry.. You got to be kidding me.. that's a DEFINITE reason to disavow.

It's not necessary that your ranking-drop was a direct result of this. In fact it's highly doubtful. In the current SEO-scenario, I would suggest you not to worry about those links. Let them be. Focus on your SEO endeavours and other link building efforts. Your rankings are gonna be fine.

You said your client's website has lot of spammy links(800 you mentioned in reply) in your question. So i would suggest you to disavow those links from GSC. If there were only 3 links, there shouldn't any issue or a ranking drop in SERPs. Also check if the new pages are being created from those spammy links and getting indexed by Google.
Check what types of links you are getting from sccop.it. Scoop.it shouldn't be your concern of issue.

If you think they are low-quality links then just remove all that links.
My sites were hit by one of the updates because of these kinds of autogenerated links. So get rid of it as fast as you can.

Yup I agree, already did it. it ended up being close to 1,000 dofollow links for 4 websites all that look exactly the same and in the same niche.

it looks like they autogenerated BBB listings and thats where it grabbed me.
