Hi, I am doing SEO for a website of local cleaning business. This website has a forum which wasn't maintained well before they handled me the website. During this time a lot of spam topics and forums was created by spammers (some of those topics was adult/gambling related). These spammers also created lots of toxic links(according to ahref total 4.5k). I have already deleted all those replies/topics from the site and disavowed most of those backlinks. Its been around 2 months I have done those work but the website still not showing expected result. Is there anything else I should do? Thanks.

You have 2 problems here: linking out and backlinks to your client's site

For backlinks, the answer is fairly straightforward:
Google judges backlinks based on TOTAL number of links

So this means you have to earn / generate lots of clean backlinks to your client's site

The second problem of linking out: delete the forum
Create a blog and link out to high value sites so the HILLTOP update can benefit your site's rankings

You said you have cleaned the link profile. But did you have gotten new links in place of those old ones?

I think high da backlink can be helpful for relief from this kind of problem. Or you can disavow all links from search console and start optimize in a secure way hope it will helps.

If you see your website is still containing backlinks on high SPAM or toxic sites, you can simply create a list (.txt file) of all toxic sites and disavow them through the Google's disavow tool.

You know you need a disavow links file if:
    • You receive a manual link penalty or a Google link warning in Search Console (formerly Webmaster Tools)
    • You suspect a Penguin algorithmic link penalty, or
    • You believe you might be a victim of negative SEO

Delete the forum. There is zero reason a local cleaning site needs a forum. It is going to do nothing but attract spam.

Then disavow every link pointing at forum URLs.

Stop spreading lies. DA has absolutely nothing to do with the value of a link.

and there is also the real possibility the site has been penalized for content and/or links if the webmaster was not paying that much attention.

Use the disavow technique, but use wisely and carefully, do some research beforehand.

Well, Google will ignore all those bad links if you have more quality backlinks for your website. Diavow only those links which are of now relevancy to your website or have high spam score but disavow will result in checking all your backlinks which may have a negative impact on your website.

As every one is saying to disavow your harmful backlink to webmaster tools, and if can do then try to update your web content and your meta titles and description.

First Disavow all the toxic backlinks from the forum with the help of google search console. Now, it's time to categorize the forum according to your plans and debates. Allow only those topics and debates which are familiar or beneficial for your website forum. If there comes any spam content than just remove it. Ask the forum administrator to check it.

    Hi Ana,

You did an awesome job trashing bad links. Now give Google a reason to rank the site: build good, reputable links through quality guest posting and quality forum posting, both in the niche. Google rewards folks who offer immense value, creating real resources.

Scrape all those backlinks and check them one by one. Separate those poor and spam backlinks. Save it in a txt file and submit it to the search console disavow tool. You can also contact the web owners of those sites where you're backlinks were listed and asked them to remove your like. If not possible, go ahead and disavow them all.

No everyone is not saying that. Nobody is saying that because meta titles and descriptions have nothing to do with this discussion.

This is very important question from the day when Google started penalizing websites with toxic backlinks.

There are number of tools which are very effective to find out bad or toxic backlinks. For eg:- Semrush is very good. Even ehref and majestic are equally good tools.

Once you find the list of bad backlinks, just move to Google debug tool and request to debug all the bad backlinks. This is the best and safest method. Try it.

I have mentioned some points which create big issue for a website. So don't do this.

    1. Set up Google Webmaster Tools Email Alerts
    2. Keep Track of Your Backlinks Profile
    3. Protect Your Best Backlinks
    4. Secure Your Website from Malware and Hackers
    5. Check for Duplicate Content
    6. Monitor Your Social Media Mentions
    7. Watch Your Website Speed
    8. Don't be a Victim of Your Own SEO Strategies

Clear the old ones and create clean URLs in replace to them. That would help otherwise you'll see the backlinks status going down for the site. URLs cleaning not only requires deleting the OLD links but to create new quality links also.
