Dear,

Need some optinion.

I own a domain iCalvyn.com since 2007, build my content, backlinks, and traffic

on 2014, i manage to register a new domain Calvyn.com

Hence, I migrate every thing to new domain, also trigger change of address in Google Search Console. I had set 301 redirect from iCalvyn.com to Calvyn.com for some time already (Unfornatunately traffic drop tremendously)

Since the migration already done for years.
Question 1: I believe that must continue renew the domain in order to gain the benefit/backlink which I build in old domain? If the domain name expired or taken by others, I will lost this benefit?

Question 2: Since I am using 301 redirection. Basically old domain is sitting there without doing any thing. Is there possible I can stop the redirection, make use of old domain name to setup another website? I do believe if I stop redirection on from iCalvyn.com to Calvyn.com, I will lost the benefit as describe in Qeustion 1. Do correct me if I am wrong.

Question 3. If the 301 redirection from iCalvyn.com to Calvyn.com require to remain. I believe this should be no issue if I am using the sub domain to create website such as web.iCalvyn.com.

Appreciate if anyone can share your valuable opition.

Yes, you are right, don't stop redirection and you can use subdomain to create a website
It will sustain your backlinks benefit as it is

Just keep patience mate! It happens after fully redirecting an older site to a new site. It just takes time to be up there. BTW, how many months or years ago you have migrated your older site to new site? Have you ever checked the rankings for the new site?

I had migrate long time ago around 2014.

I had also use plugin to redirect my sub page to new domain eg
      icalvyn.com/subpage
      to
      calvyn.com/subpagep
(unfortunately this plugin seem like not working now, I can't login to the old domain wp back end as it already redirect to new domain every time I try to login icalvyn.com/wp-admin)

while changes of address in google webmaster tools, I only done changes last year.

It will take some time, as you have said you did 301 redirection. It will take some time to get traffic as well as ranking to new domain.

I believe it is totally okay just keep the 301 redirection intact and just be a little patient. Obviously, the traffic will be discreet since its just been a year since you changed the settings in Google Webmaster and Console.
Also, I would suggest looking into influencer marketing, since old school link building isn't doing much in the 2019 epoch.
