Black hat - Avoid, unless you're okay with short term rankings and not after results that stick.

Yeah I would also say the same, if you are okay with short term rankings then go ahead and use them but if you actually spend time and money in PBNs you can stay higher on rankings for long.

But best is to skip them if you want the website to rank even after updates made by google.

Yeaaaars ago when I was just starting out online, I'm talking 2009/10. Back then PBN's were great, but Google have caught on to this method MANY moons ago already. Don't waste your time or money on PBN's. Hell, I used to sell a PBN service a LOOOONG time ago. Why don't I do it anymore? Because it would be stealing, because it does not work as it did 10 years ago.

PBN stands for Private Blog Networks and yes, it is black hat. As we know, with PBN, we can build tons of backlinks within just a few days.

I've never been a fan of artificially increasing your rankings in any way. If that's the only way you know to bring traffic to your offers, then you don't know marketing at all.

Organic traffic is something that happens as a byproduct of your other marketing efforts. Write a lot of good content, share it, get a lot of eyeballs to it.

Keep doing this enough time, and you'll start attracting long tail search engine traffic, and over the next few years, it'll grow exponentially. There's no short cut to any of it, and PBN sounds to me like a black hat short cut that has no place in a real business.

I think PBN's have to be put together very well to work now long term.

It's risk vs reward really, and depends on the website you are trying to rank, i.e can you easily shut it down and start again if your PBN gets uncovered!

They are now considered as Black Hat Related SEO Technique as already said above. I'll suggest not to use them in the present time as PBNs has no longer impact which they had to have back around 2012.

There used to be several PBN services a few years back that claimed they'd boost your site's ranking. Google eventually took measures that killed their effectiveness and most went out of business. The technique does pop up again every so often but I don't think it's worth the risk of having your site penalized by Google.

It never has made any sense to me. You have to spend time and effort getting the sites in the PBN to have decent authority, which usually takes lots of content and links, in order for them to have any positive effect on the sites you are really trying to rank. That time would be better spent, in my opinion, on the sites that you actually want to rank well.

I assume we are talking about your own, real private blog network here. Joining a private blog network is an oxymoron. It can't be very private if you can join it and if you can join it, so can others. That means it is discoverable and not going to last long.

And, like Ettienne, I'd be terrified to do business with you. How can someone who pretends to provide SEO services even be asking a question like this?

PBNs links are tier 2/tier 3 backlinks. You point them to tier 1 sites like social media accounts, not to your money site. If you backlink to your money site from a PBN, you are looking for trouble.

PBNs have a use and they are more greyhat than blackhat. But if you use them to backlink the hell out to your money site knowing it will be short term but you kno wyou can make bank in the meantime, then that would be blackhat.

But then you should already know this since you provide SEO services, right?

You gotta do what you gotta do in this Google world to get what you need to put bread on the table. google is making the internet so that only those with the big bucks get the exposure. That isn't going to happen unless we allow it.

I'm not saying you should or should not use a PBN. That is your call.

"Private" does not mean it's closed in most cases in commerce. It means it's only open for a select few at a time and who have the money to pay or who meet certain other criteria. Starting your own PBN takes a lot of time and money and knowledge, so that's why you find one who has open space and join it instead, of you can.

While it's obviously a black hat technique (or gray hat?), it still works pretty well if executed correctly. If you want a decent PBN it has to be private. What I mean is that neither Google nor your competitors should know about it. If you avoid all the footprints and create decent sites (not spun content and spam backlinks) you will most likely see the benefit from such backlinks.

Well PBN is a black hat techniques which is used for manipulation the google Penguin update. Many people are still using this technique and buying expired domains for creating their own network. so I strongly Recommend to avoid this Technique.

Basically, this is the reason the sites exist, to funnel link juice to sites you make money on. A Private Blog Network (PBN) can be either one site or a group of websites (domains) that can be used to rank your site higher in search engines.

PBN is a Black hat Technique. Google hates this and can penalize your site if they catch you. They are not safe, but they are highly effective and can definitely rank up in the SERPs until you're caught.

Those who say that PBN backlinks are useless for SEO do not know what they are talking about...

PBN websites are nothing more than websites linked each other, what's wrong with that?

If each website has a UNIQUE IP, there is no risk!

Google is on record saying that if a PBN is discovered there will be manual penalties. Again, it is mandatory the PBN be setup and maintained perfectly.

This I disagree with because even though each website has a unique IP there is the fact that there will be "footprints" that alert Google to the possibility of a PBN which is "not" setup and maintained perfectly.

I agree with everything you say, there are many other things to take into consideration to do a good job without risk with PBN (cdn records, geolocation server, server provider, affiliate ID, whois information and many others...).

But I want to emphasize that it's a common practice widely used by many seo experts who hypocritically do it, but do not admit it...

I do it and I'm not afraid to admit it, the important thing is to do it well!

If you do buy PBN services, make sure they're of premium wuality. Such links will never be cheap. Forget about 1$ links. You're going to get tanked.
Look for links in the $20+ range.

Even better option (which is expensive) is to build your own custom PBN with expired domains, your own related content, etc.
When done right, there's no way you can get in trouble, because the sites look like real websites, with real content, updates, hosted on different servers with different IP's.
And the link-juice is strong thanks to the low OBL.

Many people think PBN are bad, need to stay away from it.
Wow, PNB is really just a website built with an old domain name that has a lot of power available.
It is simply a satellite website of yours, take care of it carefully and it will bring you sweet fruit, don't spam.
Finally, understand the nature of it and you will not need to ask questions like this anymore.
Black hat, I think there's no hat in seo. Only the right strategy.

Nothing wrong with sites linked to each other. The problem is that these sites are selling links. And Google don't like that.

Stay away from PBNs. Yes, they still do have impact and yes, that are easy links. But sooner or later they will get a penalty (Google became VERY good at spotting patterns) and if Google will see that you have a lot of links from sites like that then you will get one too.

Stay away from any sites that are selling links on a regular basis if you are aiming for the long run. It's not worth it to build a website for many months and then lose it all because you've got to greedy about mediocre links at best that you are getting from there

It is best to avoid PBN if you want to build a long term business. However, I do use a small amount of PBN on my niche sites and I do see an improvement in rankings. I would only do 90% whitehat and 10% PBN on my backlink profile at the start.

Once I have a large amount of backlink profile, I would stop PBN and do only whitehat. I would only buy PBN from trusted sources instead of hosting on my own as they are too time consuming to manage and expensive.

PBN stands for Private Blog Networks and yes, it is black hat if you take Google's word for it. the term "black hat" really boils down to whether you comply with Google's philosophy regarding link generation on the internet. According to Google, the only legitimate way websites can generate backlinks is when they earn it through their content.

A PNB stands for Private Blog Network. It is a network of legal websites used to build links to your websites to rank higher in the Google search engine. Private blog networks are not a black hat or a white hat, they are a gray hat. Google will penalize your website if they find out. It will be harder for you to gain your trust and any significant ground in SEO.
