Anyone else's domain authority just gone nuts?

We moved up one last week - yay! That's twice in a month.

Overnight we moved up another two - double yay!

However, the three competitors we track moved up 9, 6 and 6. WTF?

Despite us going up two overnight, Moz is saying we're down three.

Is Moz having a moment? Is something changing?

It's a really unimportant statistic, since it has absolutely nothing to do with how Google (or any other search engine) ranks your web pages. It's MOz's guess as to how important a site might be.

In other words, I wouldn't be wasting my time worrying about invented metrics like Domain Authority.

    Hi Aneditor,

"Domain Authority" is a made up metric. Made up by Rand Fiskin, based on a survey question that was sparked by a forum discussion on the Webmaster's Forum years ago. After much research Rand himself determine there was no evidence that it actually existed. He even published an article announcing his conclusion. His followers however were not having it, they wanted so much to believe in the metric.

Rather than risk losing that following he expunged all his research and made himself the only source of a made up fake metric that you couldn't possible find anywhere else except his service. He turned that desire to believe in something that didn't exist into a multi-million dollar business.

The bottom line, you are chasing your own tail.

There is no such thing as "Domain Authority" that exists within a search engine environment. You can safely ignore that made up metric. Search engines index individual web pages, not websites. There is only page authority, "domain authority" is just a made up metric based on the page authority of a website's homepage, nothing more.

Rand knows you want to believe, so he forces you to pay him money to delivery the illusion. You've been duped. Now, forget about "domain authority" it's just a unicorn, and get busy optimizing your individual page content and link graph for individual pages.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Just keep focused on metrics that matter like rankings and traffic

Although Moz's metrics changed, my search rankings didn't so whats the point of them?

MOZ DA 2.0 has been released and due to that many changes have been made and therefore you might see a drop in DA.

Why in the world do you waste time tracking that? It is utterly useless.

  • Moz takes a while to update, I find all these paid analytics sites are fairly inconsistent with each other.

Funnily enough Neil Patel's ubersuggest seems to be the most accurate which is good for us.

Accurate for what? Everything Neil touches turns to garbage.

Ubersuggest was a cool tool before he bought it. Now it is a steaming pile of shit.

even thou I use DA values to help understand authority within sites, it means nothing for ranking on Google

Moz data has nothing to do with ranking in the Google search engine or any other search engine don't confuse this

all tools help give you clues to rankings but they are not the end all, you need to get your content out and experiment

I've had winning websites and taken the exact same template applied it to other areas and got no rankings regardless of the success of a ranking site, a lot more going on than what Moz DA values could ever give you all tools are a guide

Moz has announced a new domain authority and maybe that's why you got up in DA. we have also seen improvement in our Domain authority but I'm also not sure if it's due to their new algorithm or what.

MOZ has updated the new domain authority algorithm on March 5th 2019. since the update is rolling out, many of the site's domain authority is up and many of the site's DA is down. But DA is not a Google metric, it has zero impact on how well or how poorly you rank in Google. So if your site's DA is improved or dropped, it won't affect your keyword ranking.

Yes, Moz has updated their algorithm.

Domain Authority 2.0 was rolled out and most of the websites experience a drop in their DA Score.

Hey nothing to worry. Even our website DA has also fallen. But it has not affected our traffic so no worries. Moz has just updated their algorithm so it has affected. Not only yours it has affected all the websites on the internet. I would say it is just a building collapse. You know how to rebuild it. Then don't think too much about that collapse just start reconstructing it again that's all.

It's nothing like a building collapse. If a building collapsed, I would be concerned. If a site's DA collapsed, I would not give a shit.
