Yahoo, BOTW and Business.com

OK who has registered to these directories and has it made any difference to your rankings? I just came by a bunch of cash and want to know if I should buy listings on these 3 directories. Also found out that the better business bureau is a follow type link. Thinking about this one as well for business reasons other than SEO.

Please only comment if you have actually done this. No speculations please.

    Hi turbohips,

I have had good results from Business.com and BOTW, Yahoo not so much, at least not $300 worth. I used to do Business.com a lot more back when it was $100, not such a bargain at $300 but you do get fair amount of traffic. It seems to vary quite a bit between industries.

Hotfrog.com is an up and coming directory with more traffic than BOTW, it's a good bet as well.

I have registered to these directories most of my sites are listed in these directories and no doubt that they can make difference as these are the top most directories. I would also suggest Dmoz that is free but takes time to get listed in Dmoz.

Thanks for the replies. I've been trying to get on DMOZ for the last 4 months and still nothing yet. As for the other top directories I'm still on the fence. For BOTW and Business.com I believe there is a life time option for $300 and I can find discount coupons to save around $50 on both of them. Yahoo is still thought to be the best out of all the paid directories and Google still says to use them.
Any experience with having BBB with your business. My site is a business to business type and I think I'll benefit from having a BBB logo on my site. Your thoughts?

I've definitely seen good rankings and quick build-up of PageRank for a brand new site listed in Yahoo, I'm sure that was a big contributing factor because I have other sites with similar links not in Yahoo, they haven't faired as well.

OK I'm bringing this topic back up because there hasn't been enough real experience noted for me to get off the fence and buy the Yahoo directory listing. Can more experienced people chime in here please?

I think Paid Listings are important as they would list your website - guaranteed. Free directory listings are usually, not effective.

Yet, when you pay Yahoo you are not guaranteed a directory listing. And some free listings are of very high value.

I have a number of free listings in directories that now require payment to be considered. Many paid directories start out as free directories and only start charging after they become popular.

Turbo, I've been in the Yahoo directory for 4 years and you will get no or little traffic from it. It used to be worth it for the link only but I think in today's world you can spend the money elsewhere. If you do decide to pay the $300, only do so once. I only paid once and they never removed me.

Who knows? The Google algorithm is a black box anyway.

I submitted my new 2 week old site to yahoo last week and 2 days ago they added my site to the directory. Yesterday when I checked I was ranked #5 in yahoo for my preferred keyword. Go figure.

    YMMV.
