Can someone explain the Google "people also ask" box to me?

Has this taken over from numbers 2-6 on the google search?
If so, do the original sites positions still exist?

I imagine anyone in those positions suffer from visitor loss don't they?

    Yes, this and many other Google "enhancements" to their search rankings have caused people to lose traffic as the real results keep getting pushed further and further down the page. Those positions still exist, they just show up lower on the page.

    Now, the real question should have been, "How do I show up in those 'people also ask' results?" The answer would be creating the best content specifically around those questions.
