I am looking into tools to find niches and one of them was Micro Niche Finder but then I read on the forum that the OCI (for commercial intent) has been off b/c Microsoft has been supposedly trying to prevent these types of tools from working. If you use Microniche finder, are you seeing this?

Also I know this also a feature in Keyword Elite.

All I am trying to do is plug in my keywords get variations and see if there is a reason to pursue them. These tools (MS, KWE 2.0, and MNF) ARE CONFUSING THE HECK OUT OF ME!!!!!

I've never been able to get the MNF OCI to work consistently. Try spyfu.com and check the number of advertisers and the adwords ad cost numbers. I find these to be reliable indicators of a niche's commercial potential.

Look for anything with an advertiser count greater than 10 (though my best performing site only has 5 but that's perhaps an exception). Also, note that the search count in spyfu is daily searches.

I couldn't agree more. there's nothing in MNF that I can't do in MS with much faster speed.

MNF is not reliable anymore. Infact no keyword tool is reliable. I am working with Google's keyword tool now and I found out that the same data is shown by MNF, and its now smart to pay for something which gathers its data from google and charges you for that when its free to get. You just need to play your senses and play smart.

The problem with Google is that it doesn't give you real long tail KW like it looks as though MNF does. Am I correct? How is the support for MNF? Who still loves and finds it useful AND making money using it?

Don't listen to the smack talkers. MNF is a solid piece of software for a one-off price. James Jones (the creator) will get the OCI situation squared away. The problem is when people expect too much from such tools. Use MNF as a way to speed up the first step in your keyword research. Use it to rule out phrases. Take the list of good possibilities and do a little more (but much less time consuming now) digging to find the true gems. What I'm saying is, don't think of these programs as total shortcuts. They simply speed up parts of the process. I don't know about you, but my time is well worth a small one-time payment, even with the current OCI snafu.

Out of all the software programs that I use in my internet business I would say that MNF is truly my favorite. Gon ahead and listen to the guys saying it is not worth and you will be slaving away for hours try to find just a couple of good keywords while people using tools like MNF with have several in just a few minutes and will not be burned out by the process.

MNF is great plain and simple...

I wouldn't worry too much about using OCI to determine whether to go after a keyword phrase. Just use common sense and think to yourself would someone be a buyer if they typed this term into a search engine?

MNF is a solid piece of software but like anything it's not perfect. Of course you can find low competition keywords without it -- MNF is simply a tool to do it faster.

Thanks so much for offering your opinions! This really helps. I thought it looked much easier to use myself but hearing from everyone, you need to walk before you run and this sounds like a walker can use it.

I've been using MNF for a few months and really like it. Convenience is what I paid for and got. I used to do it the manual way and use free Wordtracker a lot more, but MNF is just so easy to use and much quicker.

I like the SEO results my sites are getting from it so far.

I agree that it's only a guideline and not perfect. But, keyword research is a MUST and with growing competition, I'm glad I have this particular tool.

I've used MNF for 5 years, and it's my daily workhorse for finding long-tail keywords that can compete for Page 1 listing. My experience is to take the SOC rating from MNF and go with it. If it's green, good; if it's red or yellow, find another keyword.

Saves an incredible amount of time.

Sure, MNF has its buggy problems from time to time, but they always get it fixed. Support always responds quickly to any problems I have.

I've never put much faith in the OCI. As previously noted by other posts, just use some common sense when evaluating the buying intent of the keyword. I like to look at the number of Adwords ads and the Ad Cost.
