Should you use a domain name that puts a state first or a industry first?

For instance, if you had a choice to buy OhioLaw.com or LawOhio.com, which would you choose?

    There is no set rule for this. If you'd like my opinion, OhioLaw.com sounds better.

      I WOULD like your opinion. Lol. And OhioLaw.com DOES sound better. But I just used those domains for example.

      So now I'm considering two scenarios:

      Buy two versions of a domain then redirect one to the other.

      Buy two versions of a domain than A-B test which one Google favors.

    Neither. I would use the name of the firm or business.

      I agree with Mike, if you have a business name and the site isn't informational as Dave has suggested, then using the name of your business would definitely be preferred. I also agree with Dave though that If you don't have a business name then something people can easily remember is best and OhioLaw is preferable in your example because it flows better.

    Assuming that there is not a name of the business and it is, instead, an informational site that you monetize in some way, I'd go with whatever sounds closest to what people would actually say. In the case of your example, nobody would ever say "law Ohio".

    In the end, though, it really doesn't matter as long as it is memorable. All other things being equal, both of the domains in your example will rank the same.

    OhioLaw sounds a whole lot better. Is this also the name of your firm? Because if not, it would be wise to put in the name of the actual business itself.
