Is SEO harder for lesser-known TLDs?

Hello, SEO experts.
A general question: is there a difference between .COM and the less common TLDs?
For example, does a .MORTGAGE or a .RESTAURANT TLD require a Lot more work to get it to the top of Google page 1?

    .COM extensions are more valuable than all other extensions out there, but that doesn't gonna affect how Google sees these things, Google only prefer relevant & user-friendly content done with some good SEO, now whether it is .com extension or any other, it doesn't matter to Google.

    Thanks Very Much for your input, people. An SEO expert that I am considering hiring said that a .MORTGAGE TLD would require "more hard work" than a .COM, so he raised his price. I had never even thought about a difference in the difficulty level. Thanks.

    Google has said multiple times that the TLD does not matter at all for ranking. It definitely will matter if you want repeat visitors. People remember sites as being .com, whether they are or not, so your .net, .biz, .us, .whatever stands a very good chance of having people who wanted to revisit being pillaged by the .com owner.

    Google has clearly made clear that TLD has no more weightage than new TLD, so there is no research on new TLD that it takes a longer time to rank. It just a Mentality of People that have built for a long time that the .com domain is more famous or trustable.

    I ranked a .technology domain for competitive local search terms before I realized that it was a terrible TLD for branding...

    It doesn't matter one bit for SEO, but I would suggest you consider an exact match domain and preferably a TLD that's easy for non-tech people to understand and send emails to.

    I'm sure I'll catch grief from someone because of some article from years back when Google devalued exact match but our testing shows it still works, especially for local search. And that's another suggestion...don't rely on advice from Forums (even mine!) or articles about SEO. Test everything and figure out what really works for your web properties.
