Moz spam score 16 for some pages - Never a manual penalty: Disavow needed?

Hi community,

We have some top hierarchy pages with spam score 16 as per Moz due to the backlinks with very high spam score. I read that we could ignore as long as we are not employing paid links or never got a manual penalty. Still we wanna give a try by disavowing certain domains to check if this helps. Anyway we are not going to loose any backlink score by rejecting this low-quality backlinks. Can we proceed?

    I doubt that disavowing links is going to help. Google ignores bad links now unless there is a blatant pattern of trying to manipulate their algorithm, in which case you'd get a manual penalty. That said, if it's not a good link, it won't hurt to disavow it, either.

    First of all stop caring about Moz. Its a toy metrics.


    And secondly don't even touch the disavow tool unless you see a manual action penalty in your webmasters tool account.

      Not sure I totally agree with the second part. Once you get a manual penalty, they are extremely difficult if not impossible to recover from and even if you do, it typically takes many, many months (unless you are a big Fortune 500 company, which Google seems to forgive quickly).

      If you or someone else placed obvious, followed forum or blog comment spam links, for instance, I'd disavow them BEFORE Google decides to implement a manual penalty. They aren't going to ever help you but they certainly could hurt you.

      NOTE: I'm talking actual spam here and not thoughtful responses that just happen to link to an article that further explains your position.

          OK, I see what you are saying. This is the type of stuff you need to do with a keen eye and a scalpel, not a blindfold and a chainsaw and you should never trust a MOZ algorithm to make those kind of judgments.

            Exactly, by relying on Moz metrics OP is blindfolded alright.

    Moz's spam score is utterly meaningless. You start disavowing links and you are likely to disavow links that are actually helping you to rank.
