Link building can be a very risky strategy in 2019, and one that I would avoid until you have (at least) first dealt with the inevitable quality issues on your website. If your business or website content is not attracting organic links or social shares you may have a big problem on your hands, and unnatural links will not help you in the long run.

Linking is one of those 'things' that seems to have come full circle in 15 years. First people linked to you because they liked your site - then we started 'building' links by contacting other site owners and 'reciprocal linking' - when that method was gamed, we used three and four way links trying to confuse google. We bought links on high ranking sites, joined link groups, spammed profiles in the hope of 'good links'....

Now the best links - again (or is that 'still'?) - are from site owners that link to your site because you have something of interest on your site. Who would have thunk it?

I think linking to the homepage is better. I believe it will give a visitor a chance to see what you do. It will help them make up their mind whether to move to the money page or not.

I would build links to both. If you have a bunch of backlinks going to only one page on your site, it will not look natural. To have a more balance link profile, I recommend building links to the homepage and your money page as well.

Look at your niche...find several competitors and examine their backlink profile carefully. What's the average ratio of links going to home versus inner pages across the niche?

Try to maintain that average as best as possible while also understanding that these link types really don't do anything to boost your ranking. They can be used to ensure you have a good bit of nofollow links from diverse sources, but it's also possible to get real spammy, real fast with profile links. I'd try to stick to profiles on sites that make sense to your business and would be something any brand would want to secure a presence on if they are a part of your niche.

Avoid building profiles just for the sake of adding backlinks. Do it because you're securing the brand presence on platforms that are relevant to what you do.

Although, you can alternate it by linking to your home page and then your money page, just so you won't flood backlinks to your homepage. Build links not only on your homepage but your internal pages as well. It's a good seo practice.

I recommend building backlinks to Both your homepage and money page. Also, when building profile links, you should place them in content that is related to your site. So, for example, try to add a 150-250 word descriptive text to the profile, and add your anchor text backlink within.

Profile linking has nothing to do with rankings it only serves as your personal profile to the visitors, don't abuse it, provide the best information from you so that they will recognized you as a trusted person or business.

Hi, You can link any page of your website during profile creation, but it does not reflect much. It is considered as one of the link building techniques.

according to me its better to give link to home page.if you get a profile backlink from other sites you need to keep posting in that site otherwise its useless...if i am wrong please correct me..thank you

It's important to create 2.0 web profil backlinks as we know but major of them are nofollow links, put in consideration that many website's owners are doing the same, so the differance is how much is your profil active on that websites?( firefox, adobe, microsoft,...) it's very effective to participate on the contents of those websites and their forums to boost your profil's relevance, and that's have a great bounce to your backlink.
