Should I enable canonical urls to an autoblog?

Hi,

On one of my websites I use an automatic plugin to bring new content in from other websites in the web. Below each article there is a link to the article's source -so I'm not claiming that the content is mine.

The plugin I use has the option to add a canonical tag to each article that it publishes to my website.

Apart from the content published from other sources, some articles are original and SEO optimized to rank on Search Engines. The method I use for ranking them is link-building and at the moment everything works fine.

- My question is, does the fact that the rest of the articles are essentially duplicated from other websites, hurts my rankings?

- Should I try to find a way to add a canonical tag to all urls (currently over 35.000 articles) that are duplicated from other websites? If I do that, will my rankings get better?

  • You can activate them or not, depending on what you need.

  • If you don't have permission to use the content from those sites, that is still copyright infringement. It doesn't matter if you link there or not.

They can have your site taken down as well as sue you for it.

  • Duplicate content is bad. Using the same content, either in total or partial form, on your website leads to a poor user experience, and triggers a red flag in Google's search algorithm.
