Sounds like it's 'dancing' The same thing is happening to a couple of my sites at the moment too - I've been consistently building backlinks to them, they were ranking well and now they've disappeared out of the top 100. Usually this only lasts a few days, so don't worry

Ditto, this happens to all of us, particularly on new sites under 3-6 months old. Hang in there and don't sweat it. Actually, get used to it :-)

Best anecdote for the Google dance is to invite another girl to the dance. Before you know it, fickleness turns to jealousy and, what do you know... your dance card is full again :-)

go to google... change the advanced settings to show 100 posts per page, search for your keyword, go to page 10 (900's) and if you find your page sitting down in the 800's-900's of the search you probably have a google penalty.

Welcome to the world of Google madness. Sometimes it seems they get joy out of making us squirm.
As everyone else has stated it happens to most and your ranks will most likely return.

How old is your website? have you applied any black or grey hat SEO techniques.?

1-Drop in rankings for new sites is quite often after initially they get good rank and soon drops alot

    2. because of grey or black hat SEO site may be penalised check for webmaster guidelines.

Is it really true that google penalizes sites with backlinks from non-related sites? What if i did this to my competitors? will they drop out of rankings too?

Don't stake your life on that one site. Build some more, because they'll always be dancing around like that but when you have lots they basically average out.

While you're building more you can just keep building backlinks to the site that just dropped. Write some articles with backlinks to it (including specific pages, not just the home page), do some social bookmarking (get a tool like socialbot or bookmarking demon, or manually if you've got more time than money), and my "secret" tip for the day (not really secret but I just discovered how awesome it is): submit your site's rss feed to lots of rss directories. There are tools that do it for you (I heard that Incansoft has one) or do it manually. Here's a list you can start with 55 Active RSS Directories to Help Promote Your RSS Feeds! Some of those don't work anymore but lots do.

Well yeah, i have other sites actually but the site that dropped out of the SERPS convert like crazy and it happened in the middle of it. damn. I have done social bookmarking and sent all my rss to all the rss directories already. Maybe i should build more backlinks to it.

how my site will go back to its rankings? also, what are the factors that make your site drop off the rankings? is it because of the google dance and it naturally occurs? or is it because of the link building done to the site?
