Brian did an interesting report that you might be interested in, so I thought you might be interested since it applies to a lot of discussions here at WF.

One thing interested me and that is Highlights and Key Statistics.

    It is an interesting article but I can see how many people who do not thoroughly read can get the wrong impression.

    Case in point: Brian states, "Small business owners that spend more than $500/month are significantly happier with their SEO provider than those that spend less than $500/month."

    If someone were to just read that, they might automatically assume that they are going to be happy with an SEO if they spend more. A graph a little before that point shows that only 23% of people who spent more than $500/month were highly satisfied with their results (compared to only 15% who spent less than $500). While that may technically be "significantly happier" it hardly paints a rosy picture for either spend amount.

    In fact, he states, "Only 30% would recommend their current SEO provider to a friend or colleague" (regardless of what they spent).

    Just saying, read the whole thing and not just a few takeaways.

      I caught that too and I thought the same. Also, I know that small business owners that spend less also get less vs. those that spend significantly more get more in terms of various services.


      Since most SEO providers sell various packages in terms of various services from low cost to high cost I can see where differences can impact small business owner's decisions.


      SEO competition among small business owners is strong in my area and most of them will not disclose their SEO provider to their competitors.

        This is one of the first things I tell prospects when I talk to them. Whether they choose us for their services or not, I have never found a good SEO company that offers packages. Not once. If an SEO is offering cookie-cutter packages, that should be an automatic pass.

      Pretty typical of the talking head guru's out there. They take a number that isn't really statistically significant and try to make a big deal out of it.

      Or ... you need to inform the client that it is going to be a rather long, slow climb up the rankings since they are not paying for a whole lot of time to dedicate to link building from your company. Time is money. The more they spend, the more time will be devoted to their campaign.
