SEO: Best XXX product for XXX Posts

Suppose I want to rank for "Best running shoes for cold weather", "Best running shoes for under $100".

I see a ton of these "roundup" posts that cover "Best X Product for A, B, C, D, and Z." They seem to rank very well, but I don't know how much of this is just their domain authority (the content is often utter shit, and it's apparent the person writing the post has never actually held any of those products.

From an SEO perspective: Is it better to do a single "Best X Product for A, B, C, and D" or multiple posts like "Best X Product for A" and a separate post for "Best X Product for B"

If it is possible to do a comprehensive post on just one aspect (best for cold weather, for example), sure, it's probably better for SEO to break them up into separate posts.

That said, usually one comprehensive buyer's guide with different headings for each breakout is probably not only better for users, but a better use of your time. If it is truly stellar, it may very well rank for all of them.

If people come looking for Best X product for A specifically then yeah a post specifically for A will work better.

And ignore DA, they has nothing to do with the SERP's.

Is that true? Why do I hear Domain Authority referenced so much?

Suppose I have a brand new site. All of my posts are highly-relevant to "Running Shoes".

I have a long and well-written "Best Running Shoes for ABCD" post.

I build 20 relevant backlinks pointing to my "Best Running Shoes for ABCD" post.

My competition's "Best Running Shoes for ABCD" post has only 10 links pointing to it, but they have a huge website with tons of backlinks pointed to their articles?

Who wins? The huge site's article with half the backlinks? Or the smaller site's article that has more backlinks, but the rest of the site's pages have zero links?

In my opinion, for SEO ranking, it is better to do a single "Best X Product for A, B, C, and D" post that will be of good length, of high quality and SEO friendly.

If you do multiple posts, then there is a possibility of keyword stuffing.

Thank you everybody for their input.

I also never really thought about the linkbuilding aspect of it. Wouldn't it be better to point 5 links at "Best X for A, B, C and D) than one link each at "Best X for A" " Best X for B" etc?

In other words, doesn't it make sense, from a linkbuilding aspect, to focus on building likes to the consolidated post?

The people who talk about DA are so called self-proclaimed experts. Has no idea on ground reality.

And look man whether you have a large site or competitors has, it doesn't matter. Google ranks pages not websites. 10 links to your page, 10 similar links to your competitors page will give you almost both the same ranking. But the difference will be made by checking the overall link profile of both of the sites.

      Interesting....

So suppose, I build a "Best running shoes" post. It's well-written (both SEO optimized and human readership optimized) and I get twice the links of the first ranked spot. BUT my site only has like 5 other pages.

Obviously in that case, my competitor would still win, right? Just because I have the better article with more links, there has to be other factors about the site that affect placement, doesn't there?

Link number or quantity doesn't matter but what matters is link quality. Your competitor can have 100's of links to a post. But you can outrank them with just a handful of say 10 links.

Right, but isn't the rest of my site important, too?

Obviously I can't out rank for very competitive keywords with just more quality links and a better article, can I?

The point is if you get quality links then you can certainly outrank your competitors.
