A Portal website with lots of outbound links

Hi

I'm trying to make a website about some famous people. There is already a lot of good content on the internet about these people, but it is scattered all around the web. I want to build an informational website which collates links to all the good material of the internet, all in one place.

My website would have an amount of own content, but many pages would include a whole lot of outbound links (linking off to many existing interesting pages on the web. I'd write an amount of text description by each link). My site visitors would read the page and hopefully find out about an interesting page somewhere on the web (they'd then click and leave my site).

I'll keep developing the page(s) with new content (lots more of the best links to external websites). Hopefully some of my site visitors will return for the new and latest.

I'm considering perhaps embedding a person's public feed from Twitter/ Instagram/ YouTube.

I think it would make a useful resource, sort of like a portal, about a person. But the site would have a horribly high amount of outbound links which may not be good....? What do you think from an SEO perspective?

Thank you

Yes, the idea of developing such a site is good and your fear is right too. Due to huge amount of outbound links, you may find it hard to rank. Moreover, it is even going to increase bounce rate which is going to put your website in dark.

A good advice is first built up some traffic like portals Yourstory, Ehow and once you have traffic start making outbound links. A ratio has to be there of backlinks to make your website authoritative. Last but not the least, content has to be real good. Good luck

thanks webcontent. Is there any known recommended ratio for backlinksutbound links?
I'll have a look at those portals. Yes, good content is key.

Not if your link would have 'blank' tag

Says who? We have page with 50 outbound links to 50 web directories and yet
it's listed in SERP on page 1 or 2 depending on keywords used, not to mention that
page would come up in some cases in SERP on top when people are using one
of listed domains in their searches.

Outbound links are useful stable of your site and as important as inbound.

      thanks fastreplies.

You mention SERP page 1 or 2 - how often do you think people get to page 2 in SERP?
