Re-direct websites - does the SEO of the re-direct website follow from the new link?

Hi all,

My company has a number of domains which all re-direct to our official website. So let's say I have the domain (let's call this link 1) which is set up to redirect to our main website (let's call this link 2). Does that mean link 1 will benefit from the SEO of Link 2? Or are they not connected whatsoever?

Link 1 is literally just the domain, and it doesn't have a website of its own. Just simply the re-direct to our homepage (Link 2).

Thanks in advance for any advice given!

Assuming you have a 301 redirect, then yes the new domain will benefit from Domain Authority of the old domain, I beleive it loses 10% of the DA if you redirect.

About 3 years ago, Google announced that there is no loss on a 301 re-direct anymore. https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo

That said, please read the entire article linked-to above. There are several caveats that may make it so that you get zero boost from the 301s - in particular, re-directing to something that is not extremely similar to the original page that was linked to.

If the work done is of quality, then redirection is actually important as that way you are saving your quality work. May be that's the reason why the option of redirection is actually provided. However, in case the link earlier was containing normal stuff, then no matter what, you won't be able to get any benefit.

As far as I know after experimenting with that sort of trickery, G. doesn't buy that any-longer.
