Google updates were more frequent in the past as compared to now? Why?

Penguin, Humming bird and many other updates from Google were frequent, say 3-4 years back. Why not now? Is Google now just busy promoting its own business and earning through Google Ads?

  • I have no idea WTF you are talking about. They update the algorithm constantly. The implemented around 1,000 changes last year.

    • I responded to other Warrior as well. When I am naming the updates deliberately Penguin, Panda and Hummingbird, I wish to know big updates like these that changed SEO world. I don't know WTF you are talking about 1000 updates?? Can you name 20 like I mentioned above???

  • Either you have no information or you are just another spammer who is increasing post count.

    • There are hell lot of other sources to increase posts. You can see its a web content agency, so there's no limit of sources. Moreover, out of 1000 algorithms can you please name 20 algorithms that took place last year??? And are they so big like Humming Bird or Penguin????

  • Google updates its algorithm every day, often several times per day. However, most of these are small tweaks that most people don't notice.
Yet, we also still see bigger changes. For example, last year there was the E-A-T or "Medic" update. This year, in June was the "Site Diversity" update and it seems like Google is rolling out another broader update as we speak.
So, while these updates might not be making as many waves as, say, mobilegeddon (at least not outside of SEO circles), they are still happening. It might be that there just isn't as much public awareness for them.

  • Google has become now more smarter. He is using his artificial intelligence in the more frequent way. As there are so many fake websites that are available on the google as the result the customer get wrong information sometime. So to reduce the probability of getting the wrong info, Google is analyzing the websites more frequently and more updates they are launching so as to improve their visibility.
  • Something for everyone to think about:
Google had stop being Search Engine years ago and now it's money printing press.

Sometimes I wonder if G's SERP is on a level as it was 15 or even 10 years ago,
when you would find stuff, you were looking for in top 50, compare to now, where
top 50 loaded with totally useless, sometimes unrelated sites that hardly have
anything to do with subjects of your searches.

I'm always offering web directories as an example to prove my point.

    • I don't see anything wrong with the search "web directories".

  • I believe the updates are continuing to stream in the way they did a few years ago. May be you are not checking.

    • Yes, we already have a long discussion on this. Please refer to above threads. We are checking it, its just now there are more of algorithm changes instead of big updates.
  • I guess you are not keeping a track of Google's algorithmic changes. A simple Google search could have yielded that the changes are more frequent. Though It is a common knowledge that Google keeps on introducing new changes almost on a daily basis but even if you are talking about big changes then also the changes are more frequent. A big update was on June and the other on is still rolling out which started on 28th of September.

If you want you can find a page on Moz where you can track these changes. let me know if you need it's link.
  • Hello

None of you seem to know nothing. It's pure and simple, it's because of global warming and climate change.

There's just a lot less Penguins, Pandas, Hummingbird and other birds and animals to name changes after now.

    Cheers
    Lindy
  • Competition is heavy. So Google comes out with stringent algorithm to filter low-quality content from being shown to users.
