SEO is bringing results, traffic / backlinks growing. Is there need for paid directories?

SEO is all about backlinks, traffic and conversion. There are end number of ways available to bring a website up in ranking. With sources available ( both free and paid), is it essential to take help of paid directories?

    In a word, "no". In fact, you'll just be wasting your money if you think it will help you rank because Google ignores paid links and doesn't value directory links anyway. Of course, if it is a widely used directory that will send targeted traffic, go for it (I'm not sure if many of those exist these days, though).

    I'm more concerned about your overall backlink strategy if you think a directory link - paid or unpaid - is going to help with SEO. What other kinds of backlinks are you going after?

    Oh, and you might want to re-think your summation of SEO. Traffic and conversions do not play a role.

      I completely disagree. I have gotten sites ranking for moderately competitive terms with almost nothing other than paid and free directories. It's not going to get you in the top 3 for anything competitive, but it's not a waste and Google certainly doesn't ignore them.

      Technically, they are not paid links. You pay to be reviewed for possible inclusion in the directories or you pay for better placements and/or more features with your placements.

      For example, in Yelp you can pay to add things to your listing and have competitor ads not show up on your page. Of course, Yelp is one of the worst companies on the planet and I would never give them money, but that is a common example most people would be familiar with.

        Well, like all backlink-related things - especially for non-competitive terms - I only have to wonder whether or not those sites wouldn't have ranked just as well without those links. I must admit I have never dealt with any businesses in the service industry, so Yelp has never come into play. All of our sites are eCommerce, selling physical products, and frankly, I cannot think of a single directory for physical products that has any influence over rankings.

    Paid directory or directory links isn't going to help much. But if they can earn you links then it will be a different matter.

    No need to pay for links. It will decrease the rank of your website. Google will penalize your website if it has paid links.

    There are other most effective paid platforms aside from directories and don't rely on SEO but focus on your target audience to recognize your business as a trusted source.

    This answer is dividing into two ways. Firstly, SEO (free) is the natural process to bring the traffic and conversions on your websites, no one can never stop you to rank your website in SERP.
    Secondly, Maybe the paid links have not much value than SEO but professionals are still using paid links on a website to increase conversions.
