What should be done if you rank high and attract traffic with irrelevant keyword?

It's out of curiosity that what should be done if a website is getting huge traffic from an irrelevant keyword ( irrelevant as in, you are not targeting it) as high as 10%. For instance, the site offering SEO, SMO etc is showing on top 5 position with keyword Folkd. Now my question:
1. Let the traffic come from this keyword?
2. Modify the keyword
3. Change the page to include other services?
4. What else can you suggest?

Most pages rank for irrelevant things. I guess the real question should be how is the page ranking for the phrase that you want to target? If it is not ranking well for it, you definitely need to change some content on the page and relevant backlinks to that page sure won't hurt.

The Problem is its entirely different. For instance, it is ranking on key term Folkd and the services are related to SEO, SMO and Digital Marketing. So, inserting content related to SEO or SMO services would lead to manipulations to the search engine ranking. That was the reason of asking for suggestions.

Google will often rank a keyword and keyword phrase that it considers useful to users in the SERPs. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. In your case it is a good thing. Think this article on your site had anything to with it?

Yes, you are right Jeffery. Sure this is the blog for which I was talking about. It it's a good thing then I am letting it the way it is. Perhaps it may benefit site anyhow ( indirectly), I am just concerned about the bounce rate.

How would that be manipulation? If your page is about SEO and SMO and Digital Marketing it only makes sense that you can add more content about the same.

It would not stop Google for showing the page for keywords that have nothing to do with the content, but it could/might increase your ranking for the keywords that make sense to rank for.

Completely agree with that. More relevant content, including the keywords you want to be ranked for

Hello Mike, this is what I am doing. Ignoring it and letting it the way it is. I don't think it will put an advert affect, though changing content may result in traffic drop.

It happened again! It is increasing the bounce rate, though attracting traffic, is it good or bad for the site's health?

You need to re-purpose the content. Otherwise letting things remain the way they are will not benefit you

I agree with you but shifting G from one keyword to other seems to be a daunting task. Don't you think?

Does the page have backlinks? If it does, then place internal links on that page to other pages you would like to rank higher. Use your top-performing blog posts to pass link juice & authority.

Regardless of whether or not it has backlinks, if I was Google, I would use a websites' top-performing pages to learn more about the rest of the site (via internal links).
Don't repurpose a page that's ranking on the top of Google for an irrelevant keyword phrase. Keep it there because it might get links, which will only help your DA.

There is absolutely no reason to focus on DA. At all. Ever.

I'm wondering why Google is letting this kind of scenario happening again and again in search result page, this is why the new Google BERT update is trying to be in human form of understanding more on the concept of the content.

Let the traffic come in. At least your site is getting traffic

Find an affiliate/CPA offer that is relevant to the keyword and make $$$! I wouldn't make any changes, as it may effect the ranking and traffic. Just let the traffic roll in and monetize that traffic somehow.

There is a big concern for the business you are rank on search engine and huge traffic has come on your site but they both are irrelevant for your site business and they increase your site bounce rate.

Regarding this you can do as many things:

    1. Analysis your site and content
    2. Analysis your website backlink
    3. Create Report of Irrelevant backlink
    4. Make Keywords list
    5. Contact a Backlink Website
    6. Blocked the referral sites
    7. Analyze the Negative SEO Activities

If you are getting traffic on irrelevant keywords, you must have to change the content on your website because it might increase the bounce rate of the website when a user comes on your website and did not get the actual what they have searched.

I think it is because google is heavily dependent on the search engine . But the latest algorithm will eliminate this kind of a problem once and for all.

You should always do 1 thing while you are getting traffic - MONETIZE the F*** out of IT!

Maybe you need to add more products/services to give the visitors what they are looking for?
Maybe you can use this traffic to funnel some of it to the pages you want them to see (if relevant somehow)?
Maybe you can sell it to someone else who will know what to do with it and give you money in exchange?

Many possibilities, no sure way without knowing more specific details.

Sorry OP I were you I wont hit my head if the keywords is completely irrelevant for the page. Because I read it happens to many. Rather I will concentrate on quality link creation and proper page optimization, if any.
