I have a website I set up about 3 to 6 months ago. It is a copy of the article dashboard script. I have great content added just about everyday. The problem is, I can't seem to get traffic to it or a PR. I checked with google but they can't find links back to it. I know there are links back to it because it is in my signature below. Have a look and give me advice on SEO and it the its because I'm using the article dashboard script? I'd be glad to change the script if you think it will make a difference.

Thanks for your help.
Tim

It seem like google doesn't value the content. I know the googlebot crawls my website at least once a week but it doesn't seem to make a difference that new content has been added. I ran it through the google diagnostic tool and it said that I had 14 pages with the same meta tags but it said that it would not keep it from being indexed. I'll try try changing the meta tags and see if that makes a difference.

If any of you SEO guys would like to put your two cents in, I'd appreciate it.

Your site is indexed with 684 pages which is great. As Far as I see the reason you don't have any PR is because of your link structure there are alot of links on the main page and not enough strong backlinks pointing to your homepage thus "leaking" too much link juice to inner pages.

Keep in mind that article dashboard has 10's of thousands links pointing to them from multiple domains.

Your sidebar also contains too many "follow" links, that is pure waste, because every page links to those pages and you don't really need those pages to rank. I suggest you checkout articledashboard.com and the way it sculptures page rank.

If you want to see a quick change in page rank with the next update (There was a PR tool bar update yesterday or the day before) you can make your homepage a static one with one link to the script (the current homepage) Make it pretty for visitors to entice them to click on Like a nice intro page...you can have latest articles links or even popular categories on it...featured author, etc' but make sure to add the rel="nofollow" tag.

One more thing you do have several pages with the same title tag. Although it doesn't affect your PR it does affect your search enging rankings.

Try also to keep your titles under 65 characters long.

        Cheers....and Good luck

Changing meta tags will make no difference - Google does not even look at them in terms of SEO anymore.

Neither is it the article dashboard script.

    My questions are:

    1. Is your content mostly unique. You say "quality" but is it also unique?
    2. Have you tried looking at the number of backlinks you have in Yahoo Explorer (search for it on Google) - what number does that give?

My gut feeling is that you have not really done serious linkbuilding, and probably not to many page of the site other than the main index page. You are in a very competitive niche - there are hundreds of articles sites, some with tens of thousands of unique articles and tens of thousands of one way backlinks. Also "3-6 months" is not long - think of it in terms of a human life - what can a human do at 6 months - not a lot! What can it do at 2 years - a lot more! Trust and maturity takes times in the search engines just like it takes time to grow in life.

So you are going to seriously have to "industralise" your promotion machine if you want to get significant traffic to it (social media, press releases, social networking and linkbuilding is all promotion). Do lots of it and do it every day.

Jazbo, you are saying that Google ignores the title and the description of a page?

On-site SEO is very important and I think Myster has some great points that everyone should consider.
